8.5.6.2 Penetrations for cables, cable trays, conduits, pipes, tubes, vents, wires, and similar items to accommodate electrical,
mechanical, plumbing, and communications systems that pass through a wall, floor, or floor/ceiling assembly constructed
as a smoke barrier, or through the ceiling membrane of the roof/ceiling of a smoke barrier assembly, shall be protected by a
system, or material capable of restricting the transfer of smoke.
As stated in NFPA 101: Life Safety Code Section 8.5.6.2, firestop devices shall restrict or limit the transfer of smoke. The EZPath® system is the only device that performs this 100% of the time. Devices that utilize foam closure plugs, putty seals, or
constrictive-twist-sleeves that can be left open (whether unintentionally or not) may not comply with NFPA 101.
The Joint Commission performs EOC audits using NFPA 101 as the referenced standard and looks for instances of unsealed
openings. Using the EZ-Path® system will ensure that “high traffic” openings (i.e., cable openings subject to frequent moves,
adds, and changes) are always sealed 100% of the time.”
INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODES – 2009, 2012 AND 2015:
The IBC sets clear requirements on the limits of air leakage through barriers and how that leakage value is determined.
The EZ-Path® Smoke & Acoustical Pathway is plenum-rated and can be used throughout nonrated barriers, including smoke partitions and non-fire-rated construction. It’s designed for
new or existing cable installations through walls and floors up to 8 inches (203 mm) thick.
When used in tandem with the fire-rated EZ-Path® pathway, the system allows for even easier
remote cable pulls through multiple barriers without the need to remove or replace sealant,
putty, or foam, or open and close a sleeve.

713.5 Penetrations in smoke barriers. Penetrations in smoke barriers shall be tested in accordance with the requirements of
UL 1479 for air leakage. The air leakage rate of the penetration assemblies, measured at 0.30 inch (7.47 Pa) of water in both
the ambient temperature and elevated temperature tests, shall not exceed:
1. 5.0 cfm per square foot (0.025m3 / s • m2) of penetration opening for each through-penetration firestop system; or
2. A total cumulative leakage of 50 cfm (0.024m3/s) for any 100 square feet (9.3 m2) of wall area or floor area.
To put this in perspective, with a maximum air leakage rating of 1.3 CFM for the Series 33 device, approximately 38 devices can
be installed in a 100 sq ft wall space according to the IBC (50 CFM/1.3 CFM = 38 devices). Rest assured, EZ-Path® devices are
fully compliant.
NFPA 70: NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE - SPREAD OF FIRE OR PRODUCTS OF COMBUSTION
NFPA 70 sections 300.21, 800.26, 830.26 require all cables that pass through hollow spaces, vertical shafts, and ventilation or
air-handling ducts to be installed so the possible spread of fire or the products of combustion (smoke) shall not be substantially
increased.
This means that cable penetrations must be
resealed. If your cable sleeves require materials
to be reinstalled or internal sleeves to be twisted
and constricted to restrict smoke leakage, these
actions will need to be performed every time a
cable change is made in your facility to avoid a
code violation.

The Retrofit/Repair Wall Kit is a multi-purpose split mounting plate designed
to facilitate EZ-Path® device installations around previously installed cables
