Generations in the Workplace with Sean Lyons
Sean Lyons, Ph.D. is a researcher and author on generational issues in
the workplace. In this session, he will help us understand and
overcome the challenges of managing and working in a multigenerational workforce. Through humour and witty observations he
will inspire us to become better leaders and managers of those
working around us. Sean’s research has been featured in the national
media and he is one of the editors of the book, Managing the New
Workforce: International Perspectives on the Millennial Generation.

Employment Law with Maria McDonald, LL.B. of Dykeman
Dewhirst O'Brien LLP
With unique expertise in community-based health care delivery,
Maria’s firm understands the inner workings of health care
organizations, and focuses on teaching clients how to empower
themselves on a range of health law topics. Maria provides advice to
hospitals, FHTs, and other employers, and frequently acts as counsel
in arbitrations, before the Ontario Labour Relations Board and in
relation to wrongful dismissals, and employment standards matters.
Her practice focuses on HR advice, human rights, and disability and
return-to-work management. Maria will demystify new developments
in employment law and share best practices to make your workplace
the best it can be.

Shuttle buses will depart from the Hilton in a continuous loop (so no
worries if you miss one) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and will return from
Table Rock in a continuous loop between 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. To catch
the bus, go to the back of the Hilton’s main lobby, toward the parking
area, to the pick-up and drop-off loop (not to the street side).

Sometimes, working with your physicians can be challenging (and a
bit like herding cats). Learn from fellow managers who have
successfully overcome challenges in communication, managing
expectations, and the art of persuasion when dealing with their
doctors. (A panel presentation and open discussion.)

1B. Future Direction of EMRs with Wes Stonos of OntarioMD
Wes has been with OntarioMD since 2008, and has 23 years of
experience in software and technology. As Regional Manager – West
Region, he leads a team of 13 professionals who support communitybased physicians transitioning their practices from paper to paperless
in conjunction with OntarioMD’s EMR Adoption Program. Topics
include leveraging your EMR, OLIS, funding, etc.

Let’s talk wages and benefits. How do you pay your staff? How much
is enough? What are the current average wages for specific jobs? What
benefits do you offer and what is the cheapest way to do so? This will
be an open discussion with panel leaders who will guide the
conversation and help to clarify issues in this critical area of
management.

TechLife IT
Considering digital signage? Wondering about server vs. cloud, best
back-ups, or maintaining the health of your network? What works
best for your clinic? Bob has worked in tech in one form or another for
17 years, including with major telco providers. His expertise ranges
from security systems, to audio/visual, to IT, and he has worked on
the HGTV programs Holmes on Homes, Disaster DIY, and Income
Properties. An interactive session based on your questions.

2B. Cancer Care Ontario & Primary Care
Cancer Care Ontario will update us about their efforts to ensure that
primary care providers have the tools and support they need to
improve the quality of care provided to patients at risk of or with
cancer during prevention, screening, early diagnosis, treatment and
care following cancer.

2C. Small group problem-solving/networking with Karen Majerly
OMGMA’s marketing and communications coordinator will facilitate
a session that gets delegates working together in small groups to solve
their real-life problems with help from peers who understand their
day-to-day challenges best.

The Dance of Resiliency with Mary Dicaro
Mary says life can often feel like a dance – one step forward, three
steps back. Or, the minute you think you’ve mastered the steps,
another song starts to play or a new step needs to be learned. Keeping
up with the rhythms of change can be challenging and exhausting or
exciting and energizing. This edu-taining session will show you how
the “Dance of Resiliency” can help you put the energy back into your
step and stay balanced whenever it feels like you’re tripping over your
own feet. (Special dance shoes not required.) Mary is an awardwinning professional educator, executive coach, and motivational
teacher who has been sought out by organizations throughout North
America. Audiences describe Mary as someone who trains with
passion and ignites the passion in others.
