Course Description: This course is offered as a year-long every other day class, where students
study health and physical fitness strategies.. This course will introduce the 5 health-related fitness
components and the 6 skill-related fitness components, stress fundamental fitness principles such as
goal setting and personal fitness program planning. It will also provide all students an opportunity to
assess and start building a Personal Fitness Profile. The student will be given information and skills
to become health literate and improve health, prevent disease and reduce health related risk
behaviors. The goals will include decision making, goal setting, evaluating valid information and
analyze health behaviors.
Units Covered: Nutrition and Fitness components will be visited throughout the entire year. The
individual units for Health include: First Aid/CPR/Mental Health/AODA/Sexuality/
Aging-Dying-Death/and Environment Health. The Physical Education units include:
Tennis/Volleyball/Floor Hockey/TBC (Team Building Challenges)/Inline
Skating/Soccer/Softball/Fitness Testing 3 times during the year.

Assessments 85%
● Formative 30% (of assessment grade)
● Summative 70% (of assessment grade)
● Final 15%
Summative Assessments​
: (this shall constitute 70% of the term grade)
Our goal is to assess what the students have learned from what we have taught. Summative
assessments reflect the format and content of the formative learning opportunities.
Make-up Policy for Summative Assessment​
: The student may redo the summative assessment
one time within one week after completing all formative tasks, and necessary additional learning. It
is the student’s responsibility to advocate for this opportunity and make the necessary arrangements.
Cumulative Final​
: At the end of the semester, there will be a cumulative final exam. Students will
not be allowed to retake this assessment. This will comprise 15% of the semester grade.
