It is school policy that the children are only
allowed to drink water in the classrooms.

opportunity to buy a healthy snack
during playtime from out tuck shop—
items range from 30p to 50p.

It helps with your child’s independence if they can
change into their PE kit and back into school uniform
without adult help.
Please show them how to pull sleeves and trouser legs
back the correct way before they put items of clothes on.
Children with pierced ears will need to remove their
earing or cover them ready for the P.E. lesson

activity. On this day they should come
to school in suitable outdoor clothing

Workshops
Reading /Phonics
Please feel free to write down any comments
in the reading log when you have heard your

learned more effectively when practised

join us for a phonic workshop.
Date to be arranged.
Mathematics
We will be sending home a homework pack
containing a number square and number line.
Please encourage your child to use these along
with coins, buttons, counters, clocks etc that you
may have at home.
Sentence writing
Please encourage your child to write
independently using ‘try its’.
Handwriting
When your child is ready, he or she will be
taught the correct letter joins. Please follow
our guidance.
How you can help us
by supporting your
child’s learning
Homework
In Year 1 we encourage independent
learning, so please, after an initial discussion,
let your child ‘have a go’ by themselves.
Remember little and often works best.
Bulletin
A celebration of this term’s activities will be
updated regularly on our school website.
Look out for new information on Makewaves, our
school VLE (accessed from the homepage on our
website).
Parent Helpers
During the term, there may be
opportunities for you to support the class
on school outings and activities.
If you would be interested in helping in
class, please let us know.
