Student’s Book walkthrough
Insights Student’s Book 3 has eighteen 4-page units,
each divided into two parts.
A typical Student’s Book unit has the following features:
Part 1
This section highlights some
structures or aspects that
are important for students to
understand or revise before
doing certain exercises.
Vocabulary
New vocabulary is presented in
a box and through a variety of
tasks.

Pronunciation focus
This section fosters
students’ awareness
of the English sounds,
stress and intonation,
and provides the chance
to practise them.
6
Speaking/Listening
The speaking exercises promote fluency
and communication skills, and encourage
students’ personal response.
The listening exercises deal with a broad
range of topics and sub-skills such as listening
for global meaning or for specific information.
Part 2
This part of the unit, called ‘Insights into Culture’
focuses mainly on cross-cultural aspects.
Reading
Writing
Grammar is presented in context through interesting, realistic and
thought-provoking texts, which also integrate the vocabulary already
presented. These texts can be further exploited to practise different
sub-skills, such as reading for gist, skimming and scanning. These
texts are also used as a pronunciation check, since they are recorded
on the audio CD.
Each unit finishes with a Writing
section which focuses on a
particular genre – the writing
piece is presented in odd
units and further developed or
practised in even units.

Grammar
The structures introduced are summarized in a table and followed
by tasks that clarify the meaning and form of the new language.
Students are also referred to the ‘Grammar focus’ at the back of the
book for further explanations and practice.
Communication focus
The exercises in this section
focus on the functional
language presented in the unit
and generally involve pairwork.
7
Revision pages
There are nine 4-page Revisions, which appear every two units and contain
English-culture and CLIL-oriented pages, apart from consolidation exercises.
General Knowledge
Integration
Insight
These pages contain exercises that consolidate the language students
have learnt in the previous two units, as well as the four language
skills.
The ‘Communication bonus’ section deals with functional language
essential to develop students’ communicative skills. It provides
additional photos to triger pair and class discussion. Useful
expressions are suggested.
This page includes information
on different cultural and
everyday-life issues, and
tests students’ reading
comprehension as well as
general knowledge. It also
encourages students to further
investigate the topic dealt with
on this page.

In this section, apart from
learning cross-curricular content
through English, students
are guided to prepare and
present a project related to
the subject being dealt with.
Its clear design and guided
steps facilitate students’ final
outcome.
8
Extra resources
Plenty of extra resources are included at the back of the Student’s
Book: a Reading bank with a story taken from a Macmillan Reader – The
Speckled Band and Other Stories, a Speaking bank ideal for group work,
a ‘Grammar focus’ section with grammar rules and exercises for all the
structures introduced in the book, three songs to make practice more
appealing to teenage students and a list of irregular verbs.

Workbook walkthrough
The exercises in the Workbook are varied and go hand-in-hand with
each stage in the Student’s Book. Although suggestions as to when
these should be used are clearly marked in each lesson in this Teacher’s
Resource CD, other alternatives are also possible, for example, setting
some of them as homework.
Apart from practising each grammar point, vocabulary set or skill
presented in the Student’s Book, a typical Workbook unit also includes:
