Feed conversion is an obviously important factor in
breeding cattle, but more difficult to get a handle on.
As a responsible supplier of genetics, it is our responsibility
to identify good feed converting genetics for our clients.
How else can you get it? Coota Park Blue-E is the only stud
in Australia to have a facility on farm to record the feed
intake of its bulls.

The facility has 48 pens and we test all our
bulls every year. We record how much they
eat each day and how much weight they
put on. High converters are identified and
we use these bulls in our programe. We
then offer these bulls in our sale with their
feed conversion information.
Blue-E females have a lower feed
requirement with superior growth.
They marble as well as Angus and have a

It has been proven that some animals can
eat twice the amount of feed for the same
weight gain. This factor is a genetic one
and hence we will breed for it. We have
been selecting for feed conversion for over
12 yrs. We now have high feed converting
cattle. The poultry and pig industries have
been selecting for this trait for years.
