Scones originated in Scotland, and started out as a flat, round, tough bread. Scones became popular in England, Australia, and the Americas. Scone recipes are usually not found in everyday cook books. Scones are usually a family held recipe. Scones are usually round or triangular, but professionally made scones can take on more complex shapes, like hexagons. Scones can take on a variety of flavors, both sweet and savory. Savory and sweet scones can include many ingredients. For savory scones, bacon, cheese, and scallions are commonly found ingredients. When making sweet scones nuts, dried fruit, or chocolate and add a nice flavor. Scones can be topped with butter, cream cheese, glaze, or clotted cream. Clotted cream is whole fat cow's milk that is heated over night. After it is cooked, the cream takes on a butter-like consistency. The recipe below was prepared and served to the Journalism class. Here are just a few things they had to say about them"Just tried the cranberry scone, so amazing. Great job, I loved it!"- Emma Pearlstein "The next sliced bread"- Haley Andreasen "The scones were perfectly sweet and a little tart from the cranberries."Caroline Craig "Great scones, perfectly cooked and well put together with the chocolate"Will Twadell Here is the recipe if you want to make these amazing treats at home! (The scones that the Journalism class sampled contained dried cranberries and toffee, as well as chocolate). Nike Unveils New Lebron 13 The new shoe is set to come out on October 10th in the "Medium Berry/Pure Platinum-Court Purple-Black," color (maroon/berry). A red and white color is supposed to come out on October 24th too. The shoe is supposed to be priced as $200 just like last year when the Lebron 12 came out. Although this shoe is a bit pricy, be sure to check it out the next time you're in a Nike store. Above was one of the first original pictures that came out on niketalk.com, rumored to be the new Lebron 13's. This picture was taken at the Nike Basketball Academy on July 1st. This picture clearly shows Lebron James playing basketball with the "mystery shoe" on his feet. The mysterious shoes has been officially declared the new Nike Lebron 13 and more pictures have followed since the original unclear iPhone pictures. The sneaker world has been given pictures of the new shoe appearing in a grade school version (kids size) as well, but this time in a red and blue color-way. Personally I think this shoe is the best looking "Lebron" that has came out, along with the Lebron 4's. I think that this shoe really fits Lebron's style of basketball, which displays power, but also shows the sharp quick and mental part of the game too. I would definitely buy this shoe, that is if I had $200, and I am looking forward to see the man himself wear them during this season. They are found 5,000 ft below the surface. The males are 3.2-3.6 ft and the females are 4.4-4.9 ft. Both sharks can reach up to 6.4 ft. The Frilled Shark has 300 teeth and they are very good for catching prey because they can hold on to the catch. Vampire Squid The vampire is found 10,000ft below the ocean. They usually roam the deep sea up to thirteen thousand feet deep. 2007 a fisherman from Japan found a Frilled Shark swimming at the surface. They think it was swimming so near the surface because it was sick. The vampire squid is becoming extinct because of how the ocean is heating up. Pollution and destruction of their natural habitats have been Affecting the numbers of remaining vampire The Pacific Viper Fish has a long spine in its back that comes out of its head. They are very attracted to light and some enemies use that as a weakness for the fish by using it to get away when being attacked. They can attract prey by being perfectly still and making the other fish think they are dead and then attacking when they get close. These fish can go for a log period of time without eating which can be important because when it's so deep in the ocean, there is not a lot of food. • The Frilled Shark The Vampire Squid • The frilled shark was • discovered in the 9th century. • It can be found in the Atlantic near Massachusetts. MEET THE PRE-K Meet the Pre-K! They are a happy group of kids filled with tons of energy. The first full week of school we interviewed 5 upbeat kids who are excited for their first year at Tower. Pre-K at Tower is a year of learning, having fun, and adjusting to a new setting. Starting a brand new year at a brand new school can be nerve racking for anyone at any age. These are 5 bright eyed Pre-Kers who are plowing through the beginning of this year with smiles and laughter. An interview was held for these kids in the late afternoon of a day in September. A handful of questions were asked to the kids allowing us to get to know them better. These kids were champions who did not get stuck on any question. Some of the questions included simple ones such as what their favorite color was, to the complex questions of what their favorite thing in the whole world was. Fighter Jax had a unique answer of ‘tiger stripes’ after being asked what his favorite color was, and stated every question in fighter position. Redheaded Bay had explained her love of pasta as she answered most of her questions with either pasta, heart, or pink. Ainsley had been glued to her favorite toy in the pre-k, a stuffed animal frog, but this frog couldn’t even compare to her love for her parents. Rhory had shown his silly side while exclaiming a passion for Oreos and apple picking. Paige had a serious love for tacos. Almost every question was answered with “taco.” Her famous quote was “I love tacos, tacos, tacos, tacos!” These playful and silly Pre-K students are on their way to a successful year with laughter and fun! Below is a a crossword puzzle about the 5 Pre-K students. Use the interview from the first page to complete the crossword. The crossword uses the first and last names of the Pre-K students. Check out the next issue of the Triple-T for the answers! Inside Out Review In the 2015 fun, adventurous, and heart warming, animated summer hit, 11 year old Riley just moved from Minnesota to California and her emotions go on a journey. Her emotions are tested as she starts a new school, leaves her old friends, and has to play on a different hockey team. The movie Inside Out, directed by Pete Docter and Ronnie del Carmen has many different celebrities as voice overs. They include Amy Poller as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Kaitlyn Dias as Riley. The animation is bright and lively throughout the movie. This movie touched many as they could relate to what Riley's emotions were going through and the journey she took. There are moments that make you laugh, and cry and moments that make you think. Subtle life lessons are given to make you appreciate all of your emotions. Google: all about inside out casts and directors Rotten tomatoes reviews Google reviews I give this movie a 4/5 for animation, because it is colorful, bright, and the real people and setting of California look very realistic. Also, a 4/5 on story plot, because it is a very heart warming and very relatable story. I give a 2/5 for the characters having an equal part of the story, because Joy and Sadness were shown a significantly more then Disgust, Anger, Fear. Rotten Tomatoes gives the cute tale a 98% average on the tomato meter, and a 9/10 people liked it. It says "Critics Consensus: Inventive, gorgeously animated, and powerfully moving, Inside Out is another outstanding addition to the Pixar library of modern animated classics." Another critic said, "Stunningly original concept that will not only delight and entertain the companies massive worldwide audience, but also promises to forever change the way people think about the way people think," - Peter Debruge, Variety. This movie is made for all ages. It is a wonderful treat to watch, and connects you to all of your emotions. Everything You Want to Know About Starbucks As most people know the two most popular coffee brand names are Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks. These two coffee brands have been competitors for a while now. There are ups and downs to both Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks. Dunkin Donuts was created in the 1950's, while Starbucks was created in the 1970's. Starbucks also has better hot coffee and Dunkin Donuts has better iced coffee. Every season you see a Starbucks cup that matches with the season, and you see a Dunkin Donuts cup and it's the plain old normal cup. Did you know that Starbucks was founded in the year 1971? Two teachers and a writer decided to make the famous coffee brand Starbucks. Jerry Baldwin was an English teacher. Zev Siegl was a history teacher, and Gordon Bowker was a history teacher. The new Starbucks owner is a 72 year old man named Howard Schultz. The name Starbucks was inspired by Moby Dick. There is also a secret menu for Starbucks. It show drinks that they do not show on the regular menu. There are 5 sizes of Starbucks drinks. Most people only know 3. The 3 most common Starbucks sizes are tall, grande, and venti. All of the Starbucks size names are short, tall, grande, venti, and trenta. The short is a kids size. It is an extra small. The tall is a small, the grande is a medium, the venti is a large, and the trenta is the extra large. The Starbucks size trenta can hold more liquid than an average sized stomach. The Pumpkin Spice Latte was created by a Stanford basketball player Peter Duke in January 2003. There are many interesting facts about Starbucks that I did not know. Last year Starbucks made over $10.7 Billion. Starbucks was a big supporter of the legalization of same sex marriage. 20% of Starbucks customers come to Starbucks about 16 times a month. These customers would be known as loyal customers. In some places living near a Starbucks can increase the price of your house, and your house value. Starbucks has better seasonal coffee, and drinks. The most popular fall drink is the Pumpkin spice latte and only Starbucks has those. Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts are pretty alike when it comes to the frozen drinks. The Frappuccinos from Starbucks are similar to the coolattas from Dunkin Donuts. The prices is what puts Dunkin Donuts in the lead, a price of a small coolatta is $2.59 and a frappuccino is $3.55 without tax. The size of a Dunkin Donuts small is the size of a Starbucks medium. I learned that it is not about what Coffee brand is better, it's about where it's best. If you ask someone that lives in New England they will most likely say Dunkin Donuts because New England is where Dunkin donuts was founded. If you ask that same question to someone that lives or is from Seattle they would think that Starbucks is better because Starbucks was founded in Seattle. POPE VISITS STATES OF AMERICA On Tuesday, September 22nd, Pope Francis landed in Washington D.C to meet with President Barak Obama. This is the Pope's first time ever stepping on U.S. soil, and he was hoping to help with the political problems in this country. Pope Francis will be going to D.C., New York, and Philadelphia. The Pope gave a short speech about his visit and what he is planning to accomplish. The following is a quote from his speech. "During my visit I will have the honor of addressing Congress, where I hope, as a brother of this country, to offer words of encouragement to those called to guide the nation's political future in fidelity to its founding principles. I will also travel to Philadelphia for the Eighth World Meeting of Families, to celebrate and support the institutions of marriage and the family at this, a critical moment in the history of our civilization." http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/22/politics/pope-francis-us-visit-updates/index.html http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/25/us/pope-francis-united-nations-friday/ I think that this will be useful for America because the Pope will help our nation grow and develop. He will give us new ideas to make the place that we live, a better environment. He is coming to America where Catholicism is at its lowest point it has ever been in the USA. Less people are going to church on Sunday's, and on holidays. The Pope then had a parade in downtown D.C in his Popemobile, his car that he uses during parades in Italy, with people lined all on the sidewalks. In New York, the Pope will be paying respect to the 9/11 victims and will be visiting the 9/11 memorial. Pope Francis will hope to visit the U.S. more often once he leaves. If you happen to be in Philadelphia this weekend, look for the Pope, because who knows, you might end up meeting him. Art is an ancient type of self expression that dates back to the first human beings. Art puts thoughts on paper, bamboo, wood, and fabric. Ideas and thoughts that would otherwise be unable to be brought from the mind into the world, and could never be expressed in words or symbols. Art does not have a limit, it does not have letters, an alphabet or grammatical guidelines that has boundaries to meaning. It does not have numbers that are forced to follow a pattern that can be never escaped. It is pure thoughts, brought from the mind through the hand, and onto the medium. "Art is the most intense mode of individualism that the world has known." -anonymous. It is common to have similarities in words or numbers, but one can never recreate art down to each brush stroke, each wave of paint that breaches above the surface of the canvas. Whether one believes that they are limited to numbers or letters, they must break through this mental cage, and strive to see more. "Creatively is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep," -Scott Adams. Art at Tower is plentiful. It is on the walls, draping from the ceilings, and billowing down the halls. Children paint, draw, woodwork, and let their imaginations sore even before they how to add. However, beautiful pieces are often lost in the chaos of academics. In the following article I want to expose and feature artists at Tower. This piece is one that is often over looked. It's located near the rotunda, where brilliant streams of light highlight these student painted tiles. Julia Livingston's (8th) tile is located two from the left in the middle row, featuring "Julia Pell Livingston," with pink stars and a white background. She made it in Pre-k, a mere 10 years ago. Her mom and her made the piece together. All the people who helped to build the Upper School rotunda have a piece featured. Dylan Klocker, Will Twadell, Reed Cole and various other students are featured here. When Julia was prompted by the question, "what does this piece mean to you," she responded, "my first year at Tower." Art is a process, and not all of it has to do with paper and paint. Mr. Wells and Mr. Z are working with the 5th grade to make a boat known as a dory. This process requires skill, and precision. They need just the right curve of wood, and just the right length to make sure it all comes together. The whole thing is well, a piece of art! Below is a few questions answered by Mr. Wells himself. Who makes the boat? Mr. Zois and Mr. Wells teach 6th grade boatbuilding. The 6th grade builds the dory over the three trimesters. The dory is built from a kit supplied by Chesapeake Light Craft. What materials are used (general)? "Mahogany Plywood, epoxy, and paint."Where did you get the idea? "I build boats outside of school at Redd's Pond Boatworks which is owned by alumni Doug Park. Mr. Zois and I had been talking about wanting to collaborate in a class together. Luckily the idea was approved by the administration." Where do you build it? "We work on the boat primarily back stage, but also a bit outside and in the wood shop." When did this project start? "Planning for the project started in the spring of 2014. Last year (14-15 students) built our first dory and in the winter trimester a "steam bent toboggan". This year we will build the second dory, with the addition of wooden skis for the winter trimester." Why do you do this project? "Because it's fun. We love the idea of making something practical and combining lots of different topics to learn about along the way. PBL meets STEAM" What do you want the students to learn? "We learn about the history of the dory, Marblehead, fishing, construction techniques and tools. The science of epoxy, plywood, sustainability of fishing and timber harvesting. We learn about the local marine geography and how it influences fish." How long does it take to complete the project? "The project takes the full year." What was a major theme in this project? "One of the major themes that students learn about through our work is Mastery: Learn--> Practice --> Refine -->Mastery" Above is a picture of the works of Lauren Zion, a 6th grade student. Along with her fellow students, she is creating a book about the elements of design. Annie, a student that works alongside Lauren, is featured in the below pictures. She tells us that each page is representing a different part of the elements of design. This class is taught by Tower Schools very own two art teachers. The second one walks through the big blue door at Towers "circle" you are greeted with color. A gigantic butterfly, pained by the second grade, is displayed on the left wall. Mrs. Skinner, a Tower Art teacher managed this project. Below is an interview. Why did the class make the piece? "We needed to celebrate the year with color on the wall in a big way. We needed to make everyone feel welcome. We wanted to preview the year of color. (We also made the piece because we wanted to do) collaborative work with pre-k so they get a sense of being part of an artist community." What is you favorite part of the piece? "I love that even though the teachers designed the black outlines the second grade is able to express (themselves) with color and paint and texture. It was an exploration of learning by discovery, and you can see that when you look at the piece. It had a Pre-k sense to it even though the teachers made the outline." Marblehead High School vs. Danvers High School Football Marblehead High School has been New England middle of the first quarter, MHS quarterback Garrett Conference champions for 4 of the past 6 years. So Keogh threw a pic 6 to the Danvers Cornerback. far this season MHS has won one game and lost one Then Marblehead retaliated with a touchdown of their game. MHS had an Danvers was winning. undefeated season until that game. Their first game didn't go over well. They lost It kept going back and fourth for a while until there was 22 seconds left on the clock. Marblehead to Walpole 14-19. They were in the game the whole was up 22-14. Danvers has the ball on the time. There was a bad play where the punt returner Marblehead's 7 yard line. The Danvers quarterback muffed the ball on his own ten yard line and the drops back and runs out of the pocket. He throws the opposing team picked the ball up and scored off the ball right on target for a Danvers touchdown. Now it turnover. In the second game MHS destroyed was 20-22 and Danvers would need a two point Cambridge. They were non-stop scoring and had the conversion to tie the game to send it into overtime, other team turn the ball over. They won with a final and that's exactly what he did. They ran the exact score of 48-0. They next are playing Danvers at play and now the game was tied home. They are looking for 2 straight wins. Towards the beginning of the MHS vs Danvers High School game, it was a little slow. In the 22-22, with one second left. They were headed into overtime. The way high school football overtime is played is that each team gets 4 tries to get into the endzone. Danvers started on first down. They ran the ball for a 6 yard gain, so now they only needed 4 yards for a touchdown. Danvers decided to run the ball up the middle because they thought that if it worked the first time, then it should work the second time. It would have worked, but the Danvers running back fumbled the ball on the half yard line, and Marblehead recovered. After the play, a Danvers player was called with unsportsmanlike conduct. Now Marblehead got to start on the 5 yard line instead of the 10. All Marblehead had to do was score a touchdown to win. That is exactly what they did and Marblehead won with a final score of 22-28.
