Christmas Light Tour
Staff Fund for Employees at Christmas time
Dear Residents,
As you know, our employees work hard all year. They are dedicated to make Maplewood a
great place to live and contribute significantly to customer satisfaction. Often throughout the
year we are asked by residents if they can give a tip to the staff because they have gone the
extra mile to make our residents feel at home. It is our policy that we don’t allow staff to
accept gifts/tips from residents (and/or families). We do however give residents or their
families the opportunity once a year to give to a staff fund that is then split among all staff in a
fair manner at Christmas time. There is NO obligation to donate to this fund it is entirely
voluntary.
There is a donation box available at the front desk if you wish to donate. You can donate by
cash or cheque. Please make cheques payable to MW Staff Fund. All Cheque donations will
be accepted up to Friday Dec. 4th. All Cash donations will be accepted up to Friday Dec.
11th.
Sincerely,
Management

A parent's night before Christmas
WAIT! DID YOU SIGN UP FOR
ANY OUTINGS OR FOR
SHOPPING SHUTTLES?
'Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house
I searched for the tools to hand to my spouse.
Instructions were studied and we were inspired,
In hopes we could manage "Some Assembly Required."
The children were quiet (not asleep) in their beds,
While Dad and I faced the evening with dread:
A kitchen, two bikes, Barbie's town house to boot!
And, thanks to Grandpa, a train with a toot!
REMEMBER THAT YOU HAVE TO
SIGN UP AT RECEPTION AT LEAST
48 HRS IN ADVANCE OF OUTINGS
AND SHUTTLES UNLESS SPECIFIED
FOR RESERVATIONS.
Christmas Santa
We opened the boxes, my heart skipped a beat....
Let no parts be missing or parts incomplete!
Too late for last-minute returns or replacement;
If we can't get it right, it goes in the basement!
When what to my worrying eyes should appear,
But 50 sheets of directions, concise, but not clear,
With each part numbered and every slot named,
So if we failed, only we could be blamed.
More rapid than eagles the parts then fell out,
All over the carpet they were scattered about.
"Now bolt it! Now twist it! Attach it right there!
Slide on the seats, and staple the stair!
Hammer the shelves, and nail to the stand."
"Honey," said hubby, "you just glued my hand."
And then in a twinkling, I knew for a fact
That all the toy dealers had indeed made a pact
To keep parents busy all Christmas Eve night
With "assembly required" till morning's first light.
We spoke not a word, but kept bent at our work,
Till our eyes, they went bleary; our fingers all hurt.
The coffee went cold and the night, it wore thin
Before we attached the last rod and last pin.
Then laying the tools away in the chest,
We fell into bed for a well-deserved rest.
But I said to my husband just before I passed out,
"This will be the best Christmas, without any doubt.
Tomorrow we'll cheer, let the holiday ring,
And not have to run to the store for a thing!
We did it! We did it! The toys are all set
For the perfect, most perfect, Christmas, I bet!"
Then off to dreamland and sweet repose I gratefully went,
Though I suppose there's something to say for those selfdeluded...
I'd forgotten that batteries are never included!
OUTINGS WILL BE CANCELLED IF
THERE IS LOW INTEREST OR BAD
WEATHER CONDITIONS.

Flu season is HERE!
The flu and cold can be easily spread and you can take the following important
steps to help slow and prevent the spread of infections to others. Please remember
to always:
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t
have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder; not into your hands.
Regularly wash your hands with soap and water, especially after coughing or
sneezing. If soap and water are not close by, hand sanitizers are located all over
the building and can be used. Remind family members to wash hands and use the
hand sanitizer as needed.
Remember to inform family members and your visitors to refrain from coming to the
home for a visit if they are sick, as they can spread the infections to others.
If you feel like you may have a cold or flu-like symptom, please inform nursing RIGHT
AWAY so that proper precautions can be put in place to reduce the spread of
infections
REMEMBER: Proper hand hygiene/hand washing is key in preventing the spread of
infections to others in the home.

February at the beginning of the year. In the Northern Hemisphere December has the shortest
daylight hours and marks the beginning of winter. December provides the longest days in
Southern Hemisphere, as it is the beginning of summer. December is a month home to many
