HELLO BABY
Amanda and Willy had the perfect wedding in
Darwin’s George Brown Botanic Gardens.
But there was plenty of stress the day before the
ceremony, when the groomsmen’s pants, which
had been specially ordered from the USA,
threatened to suffocate their manhoods.
“When the groomsmen realised none of them
actually fit into their jeans, they went on a hunt
around Darwin, but could not find any,” Amanda
said.
“Luckily they ended up finding some in Katherine.
“We ordered them over the phone and got a
friend to pick them up and drive them to Darwin.
They got there just in time and they fit everyone.
It was such a relief.”
The happy couple got married surrounded by
friends and family against the luscious tropical
landscape of the gardens.
“The highlight was seeing all the people we love
most in the world all in one place having so much
fun,” the beautiful bride said.
“We had my family over from Canada, so in total
seven Canadians — not including myself — which I
thought was a great effort.
“And Willy’s grandma made the trek all the way
from Quilpie in Queensland at the age of 87.”
The couple had their first dance to their song,
‘Die a Happy Man’ by Thomas Rhett.
“It was very lovely,” Amanda said.
The sweethearts met at Camfield Station in the
Victoria River region south west of Katherine in
February 2011.
Willy had been working there for a year when
Amanda started.
Two weeks later Willy took Amanda fishing and
three years on he bent down on one knee on
Melbourne Cup day at a barbecue.
The newlyweds are planning to sneak away to
New Zealand soon for a honeymoon.
