“Understanding and Using WorkKeys Scores” Webinar – Questions and Answers April 2, 2014 Question Answer Will the PowerPoint presentation be posted on our website? The PowerPoint presentation and a link to the webinar recording have been posted on your ACT state WorkKeys website. Do we receive credits for CEU purposes for the webinar? If so, please tell us how to get that taken care of. Thank you. ACT does not offer credit for participation. You may want to check with your Department of Education. How often is the job profile database updated? Also slide 7 mentioned 80% of the jobs profiled utilize these skills. Has this percentage gone up from 77%? The asterisk on the slide states 2007-2011. How has the percentage gone up if no job profiles have been added since 2011? Thanks. The JobPro database is continually updated, but the information presented in slide 7 looks at the data from a specific 5-year period. Analysis of the data from years 20072011 was completed last year, and we anticipate an updated analysis later this year. The 77% figure is based on jobs in the ACT JobPro database profiled from 20062010. The 80% figure is based on jobs profiled from 2007-2011. Why are the “Individual Score Report” and “Memo to Examinee” so different? The “Individual Score Report” is generated through the WorkKeys Internet Version testing system, and the “Memo to Examinee” is generated through the WorkKeys paper-and-pencil testing system. While they are formatted differently, they do contain the same information. If a student scored a 7 in Applied Mathematics, a 7 in Reading for Information, and a 6 in Locating Information, would that student qualify for a Platinum since Locating Information only goes up to a level 6? Yes. The Platinum certificate requires a minimum of a 6 on all three assessments. In this instance, the examinee would earn a Platinum certificate. Why does ACT take the minimum instead of the average of the scores to determine the certificate they receive? It is difficult for them to understand that if they have two 6s and one 4 that they get a Silver certificate. Each WorkKeys assessment measures particular skills in a specific area. Within each assessment, there are identified skills that individuals will generally exhibit at each level. By averaging, the certificate would imply someone exhibits skills for one of the assessments that they may not. “Understanding and Using WorkKeys Scores” Webinar – Questions and Answers 1 Question Answer Is the Occupational Profile Database a free feature? Yes, it is. This database is available at www.act.org/workkeys. In the Resources section on this website, click on the “Search Jobs by Skills” link. The occupational profiles are also part of Career Ready 101 and KeyTrain. What does “green” and “Bright Outlook” mean in the Occupational Profile Database website? When “green” appears next to a job title, it means that it’s a “green occupation” with respect to the environment. When “Bright Outlook” appears next to a job title, it means that these occupations are expected to grow rapidly in the next several years, will have large numbers of job openings, or are new and emerging occupations. What do the EST and the "Yes" in the WK Prof column mean in the Occupational Profile Database website? “EST” means that profile for that particular job is an estimate based on extensive research. “Yes” indicates that a job profile has been completed for this position. Is the catalog of webinars and their scheduled offerings available to the public somewhere on ACT's website or distributed in WorkKeys Notices? There are two categories of webinars. One category consists of webinars that are available to the general public. The link to access the catalog of public webinars is: https://student.gototraining.com/1yx78/catalog/4912135621342396416. This information is provided via an e-mail to thousands of individuals. The second category consists of webinars for only those clients who have a WorkKeys contract with ACT. Information on these WorkKeys training webinars is provided on a monthly basis to WorkKeys Internet Version site administrators via WorkKeys Notices. How do educators and students find out what 1,400 colleges are issuing ACE credit? The American Council on Education (ACE) has a listing of their member institutions at: http://www2.acenet.edu/CREDITCollegeNetwork/. Do ALL of the colleges listed in the ACE CREDIT College and University Network allow credit for the NCRC? Or is this just a recommendation to these colleges? You will need to contact each institution to see if they are issuing college credit for the NCRC. Is there an alignment from ACT scores to help predict what the student will score on the WorkKeys? Statistically speaking, there is a correlation between scores on The ACT and WorkKeys, but scores on one test do not predict scores on the other. How will KeyTrain assist us in raising our scores? KeyTrain is the learning program and curriculum that teaches the skills that are defined by the WorkKeys system. It is designed to help individuals raise those skills that are assessed. “Understanding and Using WorkKeys Scores” Webinar – Questions and Answers 2
