SOAP is for adults and stands for Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer. It’s one chapter per day, a simple way to start a personal time with God. WHAT YOU NEED: Bible. Get a translation you can understand. The New International Version (NIV) or The Message (MSG) are two good ones. You can read online or download the free YouVersion app. Journal & Pen - Write down what you hear God saying to you when you read. If paper isn’t your thing, create an online journal in your personal YouVersion account. Reading Plan - Get our daily reading plan in the way that works best for you, and follow the chapter of the day. Scrap Paper - Use this to jot down all those little annoying things that pop into your head while you’re trying to focus. Doing this clears your mind and gives you a “To Do” list for later. WHAT YOU DO: Set a specific time and place where you meet God each day. It can be at the beach, the kitchen table, your favorite spot on the couch. If you treat it as an “appointment,” you’re more likely to show up. He’ll definitely be there waiting for you! During this time, go through your daily reading this way: 1. S = Scripture Take your time reading and let God speak to you. Highlight, underline or place a mark in the margin of your bible next to the verses that stand out. When you are done, reread the verses you marked, look for one that particularly spoke to you that day, and write it in your journal. 2. O = Observation What do you think God is saying to you in this verse? Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you. Write this verse in your journal in your own words. 3. A = Application Personalize what you read by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now and writing it in your journal. It could be instruction, encouragement, revelation of a new promise or corrections for a particular area of your life. 4. P = Prayer This can be as simple as asking God to help you apply what you read, or asking for more insight on what He wants to show you. Prayer is a conversation, so be sure to listen for His reply. That’s it! SOAP can be as simple or deep as you want it to be. If you have questions, let us know. shorelinesoap.com • @shorelinesoap • fb.com/shorelinesoap
