Green Impact Newsletter Fortnightly Newsletter for Green Impact Teams Issue 3. 12th March 2010 Good News Stories… The Planning and Executive Suite team were delighted to learn from Paul O’Callaghan (Waste and Recycling Assistant) that what we thought could not be put in the paper waste bins, actually can. So... magazines, post-it notes, envelopes (take stamps off first for Hospiscare!), waxy paper, catalogues and telephone directories can all now be put in the one same bin, along with all our paper waste. Have you had your waste audit yet? If not why not email Paul O’Callaghan to arrange one. Procurement Services had a charity bake sale for the charity WeZimbabwe this week and raised enough money to send 10 Zimbabwean children to school for a year! Staff also donated online through a JustGiving page and thanks to their kind donations a further 6 children will be able to go to school for a year! DARO from next week will have an internal clothes donation point using a plastic container they have procured and then once it is full they will take it down to the main collection point outside Devonshire House. Questions asked… Q. Can we mark a criteria as complete when we submit the workbook in March if we know we will have done it by May when the auditors come round? A. Yes. Julia Jack has spoken to the national organisers who have confirmed that we can do this. Call for Photos! We would like to show off how well we are doing with the Green Impact Initiative at a conference on 22nd March. If you would like to show case what you are doing please email Julia Jack with photos by as soon as possible. Why not include a film clip in your weekly newsletters or in a team meeting? Here’s a fun way in which to promote Fairtrade at work: http:// www.fairtrade.org.uk/work/ fun_games/ viral_video.aspx Watch the Mythbusters prove that it is better to switch off the light when you leave the room: www.youtube.com/watch? v=qgM0N7GD5Ic Q. If we mark a criteria as Not Applicable to our team do we still get the points? Handy Hint! A. Julia Jack spoke to the National organizers of Green Impact and you will not lose out if you enter not applicable. You will gain the relevant accreditation level as long as you have either filled in the criteria as ‘Department Compliant’ or ‘Not Applicable’. For e.g. for Bronze if the criteria which is not applicable to you is worth 3 points, then you will only be expected to achieve 97 points instead of 100 to achieve Bronze. No More Chemicals is a great company that produces clothes and mops which negate the need for chemicals! All you do is wet them and clean! If you would like further clarification please ring Julia Jack on ext. 5776 (Thank you to Frances Anson in Finance for this Handy Hint!) A BIG thank you for all your hard work!
