informalsector.Globally,Indiaishometoalmostone-thirdoftheworld’spoorand20%oftheworld’spopulation
livinginslums.Atthesametime,traditionalruraleconomiesarealsofacingmultipledimensionsofpovertythat
constraindevelopment,includingissuesrelatedtoinfrastructure,agriculture,educationandworkforce
development.
GlobalCommunities,PartnersforGood
Since2003,GlobalCommunitieshasbeenpartneringwithIndia’slocalgovernments,nationalministries,
corporationsandhundredsofcommunitiesacrossthecountrytodesignandimplementprogramsthatreduce
povertyandempowercommunitiestosustainpositivechange.GlobalCommunities’programshelpstakeholders
createmore-inclusivegrowthbynotonlyimprovinginfrastructureandaccesstobasicservices,butalso
livelihoodsandoverallempowerment.Theoutcomesofourprogramsinclude:newandimprovedhousing,
increasedaccesstosanitationandwater,bettersolidwastemanagement,newvocationalskillsforlivelihoodsand
employment,andimprovedaccesstofinancialservicesandsocialwelfareprograms.

SahbhagiYojana2SupportProgram(2003-2007),U.S.AgencyforInternationalDevelopment(USAID)
GlobalCommunitiesimplementedslumupgradingprogramsin103slumswith28,200householdsthrougha
programinthreecitiesinGujarat,India:Ahmedabad,SuratandVadodara.
SlumCommunitiesAchievingLivableEnvironmentswithUrbanPartners(SCALE-UP)(2007-2011),TheBilland
MelindaGatesFoundation
Thisprogramincreasedincomeandassetgenerationopportunitiesformorethan200,000slumresidentsand
improvedtheirlivingenvironment,whilestrengtheningthecapacityoflocalgovernmentandcommunity
organizationstoworktogether.
SlumandVillageImprovementProgram(2012-2015),JohnDeereFoundation
Thisprogramimprovedtheeconomicandsocialwell-beingofvulnerablefamiliesinslumsofPuneandvillages
neighboringJohnDeere’sfactoryoutsidePunecity.Thisprogramimpactedover18,000people.
Samruddhi(“HolisticDevelopment”)Program(2014-2015),JohnDeereFoundation
ThisprogramwasdesignedinpartnershipwithJohnDeereIndiatoserve20communitiesaroundPune,Dewas
andSirhindtoimprovetheeconomicandsocialwell-beingofvulnerablefamilies.GlobalCommunitieshas
transferredtheprogramtoourlocalpartnerNGOtocontinueimplementation.

TrashtoTreasureProgram(2008-present),CaterpillarFoundation
GlobalCommunities’TrashtoTreasureprograminBangaloreestablishedandcontinuestoexpandoneofIndia’s
firstcity-widerecyclingprogramshelpingadvanceBangaloretowardsamoresustainablesolidwaste
managementsystemthatismoreinclusiveoftheinformalsector.
NewHorizonsProgram,(March2014-Present),JohnDeereFoundation
ThisprogramorganizesstructuredvolunteeropportunitiesforJohnDeereemployeestoengageincommunity
developmentprojectsneartheirfactoriesandofficesinIndia.

In2009,GlobalCommunitiesestablishedanIndiannot-for-profit(Section25)
company,CHFIndiaFoundation,toenableustopartnerwithIndiansupporters
andhelpsustainourdevelopmentprogramsinIndia.In2013,throughthisentity
webeganimplementingacity-widesanitationprograminPunewithsupportfrom
theEuropeanUnion.Asthe2%CSRCompaniesActhastakeneffectin2015,wehave
alsobeenhelpingmanydomesticandinternationalcorporationsnavigateanddesign
CSRprograms.
