Snowy Range Academy First Grade September 12, 2016 SPELLING We will practice saying and writing phonograms #1-48 this week. We will also practicing using these phonograms to build words. We will take our second phonogram quiz this Friday over ten of the phonograms practiced. We have completed a majority of our fall nationally-normed assessments—this Tuesday we will take our MAP math assessment, then we’re done! Expect our regular homework schedule to continue Tuesday. Your child will be bringing home the book READING Meg and Jim’s Sled Trip Thursday. Please First grade will begin reading groups this week! The two first grade classes will come together for reading, so 1B students will work in small groups with students from 1A. Our first book will be Meg and Jim’s Sled Trip, and our focus will be identifying the author’s purpose as well as five elements of a narrative. Students’ fluency will be assessed Friday. listen to him/her read it aloud to you, and make sure the book is returned to school Friday. Have a wonderful week! Mrs. Jacobsen LANGUAGE & WRITING We will practice identifying and writing declarative sentences this week before writing one for a grade on Thursday. We will also work on identifying nouns and verbs. MATH Students will take their first fact assessment over doubles facts Monday, review +0 and +1 facts, take their first Written Assessment Wednesday, discuss “some, some went away” stories, and practice identifying one hour ago and one hour from now in math this week. Our classroom regularly needs plastic spoons, sandwich bags, and paper towels. If you are ever able to donate an item, it would be greatly appreciated! SOCIAL STUDIES World geography test is Monday. We will then begin learning about geographical features. SCIENCE We will about the diversity of ocean life this week as we each complete a small research project.
