When is a pizza shop more than just a
pizza shop? When it’s Domino’s Pizza
some stores for up to 18 months before launch, and saw the number of
driver incidents reduce by 50 percent. That’s a massive improvement in
safety levels.’
D
Bay of Plenty franchisee Tim Miller has embraced the new technology and
is wowing his customers with the experience.
omino’s Pizza is currently going from strength to strength in the
New Zealand market. Having recently announced record-breaking
profits and launched ground-breaking new technology to improve
customer service, the company is riding the crest of the takeaway wave.
‘It all adds up to more opportunities for franchisees throughout the
country to build exciting, profitable businesses,’ says Scott Bush, the
company’s New Zealand general manager.
Domino’s has a record of adopting new technology to increase sales and
improve service, but its new GPS Driver Tracker offers an unmatched level
of transparency to customers. It allows home-delivery customers to track
their order from the store to their door – and everywhere in-between.
‘This world-first technology, designed by New Zealand company Navman
Wireless, offers benefits to customers and franchisees alike and is the sort
of thinking that ensures Domino’s stays ahead of the pack,’ says Scott.
better for everyone
For customers, the benefits of GPS Tracker include the delivery of
faster, fresher and hotter pizzas, convenience and a unique customer
engagement with their delivery driver.
‘Customers will be able to watch the driver on the way to their door in
real time, know exactly who their driver is by name, and even know what
music they like and their favourite sports team!’ says Scott. ‘It reduces
uncertainty for customers and, even more importantly it will keep
Domino’s delivery drivers – our franchisees’ employees – safe.
‘We’ve always been concerned about their safety but we’re now taking it to
the next level. Our drivers are out and about making pizza deliveries at all
times of the day and night so it’s extremely important for us that our team
members, the heart of our business, remain safe at all times. By knowing
where they are – and having people know we know – their security is
increased.’
There’s another aspect to GPS Tracker, too. ‘It enables us to set
benchmarks for good driving behaviour, as well as generating unsafe
driving behaviour reports in real time. With the accuracy and speed of the
reports Domino’s is able to encourage drivers to be safe on the road. We
trialled the tracker technology in 50 Domino’s stores across Australia, in

wowing the customers
‘As franchisees we have been able to more accurately manage our orders
to ensure the customers are getting an exceptional, hot product each time.
The response from them has been extremely positive.
‘The ease of use of the technology is also something that has surprised me.
Rather than having to work my store around the technology, the technology
works around my store and the product. It is an intuitive system that offers
real and direct benefits to my business.
‘I am excited to be part of this industry-first, and to lead the takeaway
sector in this new direction. It means what we offer customers – not just
a great product but visibility into their order and even better service – is
exciting, and they are rewarding us for it with increased sales.’
vision and direction
Domino’s Pizza has had three years of double digit growth in New Zealand.
‘Much of that is due to innovations such as the new GPS Driver Tracker,
along with the existing in-store Pizza Tracker and accessible online
innovations like 5-Click Ordering,’ says Scott. ‘With so many leading-edge
and game-changing technologies on offer to customers, Domino’s Pizza is
able to offer new franchisees some massive advantages.
‘To be successful in this business you need to make sure you are meeting
the customer’s needs, and providing technology that offers direct benefits
to their lives. Domino’s Pizza is committed to continually looking for
opportunities across all areas of our franchisees’ businesses and making
their stores as successful and profitable as possible. It is this vision and
direction that sets us apart.’
a passion for business
Domino’s is looking for people who have a passion for business. ‘With an
investment of around $400,000-$600,000, the right person can leverage
our brand and our technology and bring in some healthy returns,’ says
Scott.
‘Joining Domino’s allows entrepreneurs to drive their own success. As a
new franchisee you receive thorough training in one of our corporate stores
before you start in your own store. By the end of your first six weeks, you
will have acquired skills and knowledge in all areas of store operations.
You will also be given simple but highly effective management tools
to ensure the success of your business, then our dedicated franchise
consultants will continue to work
with you along your Domino’s journey
