Motivation 101: Don’t Let Spring Semester Break You Down
ready and settled back in
and the residents came back
and classes resumed. As
relieved as we all were for
the fall semester to end,
many of us are probably feeling overwhelmed already
and may be having a hard
time getting motivated this
time around. Here are a few
helpful hints on how to get
motivated:
I am sure that many of you
felt like I did at the end of
last semester, relieved. We
went home for Christmas
break or stayed up here and
only had our RA jobs to deal
with. There were no classes,
deadlines, or homework.
Four weeks later we came
back to reality. We were
here for a few days getting
RELAX - Rushing around
makes it easier for you to
burn yourself out, its best to
do little amounts over a
long period of time rather
than trying to do it all at
once. If you can stop yourself
becoming tired then you will
keep working!
Spring is almost here everyone! Almost here!
THINK - It's your future at
stake here, and without becoming drowned in too much
pressure, you have the key to
motivation, 'self-fulfillment'!!
If you are doing something
for yourself, you will do it
well!
SMILE - Smiling is proven to
release 'the happy hormone'
which should encourage you
from within to do something
positive. There are so many
things in the world that can
make you smile, we don't
have space to list them :)
Remember: You do make a
difference and you are appreciated! Keep up the great
work and have a wonderful
semester. Don't be afraid to
ask for help or to say no
when you can't handle any
more! Best of luck!

The YPS Program of the Month
For the 2004 NEOHO Conference, The University of Akron had some special RAs who
decided to share a piece of themselves by
offering presentations. There was Beth Steffel assisting April Sue in the (Tunnel of
Awareness), Jolean Dailey (RA War Stories),
Joe Paulin & Chrissy Kenmuir (Creative
Programming for Apartments), Townhouses,
and Suite Style Halls), The Spanton Staff
(Being Roommates & Friends), and Abbas
Hill, Dan Burgett, and Stan Smith (A Different RA Experience).
Everyone did an exceptional job, however,
The YPS Program of the Month award can
only go to one of them. So we would like to
congratulate Chad Byer & J.D. Ford for
their (Team Building) presentation. According to their evaluations and the feedback
received, their program stood out tremendously! Good job J.D. & Chad! They will
both receive an award on behalf of their respective staffs Grant/Townhouse & Bulger
Staff.

What is an RA War Story? A story told/narrated by an RA that is
meant to teach or entertain their peers. Because even though
the RA job should be taken serious, we should not forget to
have a good time in the process.
When I awoke at 6:00am I thought, what in heck could be worth getting up this early for? However soon after, I was pleasantly surprised! I thought that NEOHO was a very fun and also very useful
experience. I got to meet many new people and learn from them as
well. I think that we got an idea of what some of the other schools
are like and what it is like to be an RA there. I feel that I got something out of all the programs that I attended and also I think the key
note speaker was amazing! All in all, it was a long day, but it was
well worth it! I would really like to thank all the members of housing
who put on this wonderful event! Without everyone's hard work, we
never could have done such a great Job!
