What is Shalach Manot?
Shalach Manot (also Mishaloach Manot in Hebrew) means the “sending of portions.”
It is derived from the Book of Esther, in which we are told to observe Purim, "as days of
feasting and gladness, and sending portions of food to one another, and gifts to the
poor" (9:22). This year we are proud to initiate a new Temple Beth El tradition of
“sending portions” to each other.
Who will receive Shalach Manot at TBE?
All members of Temple Beth El will receive a Purim gift basket this year (one
basket per household), sponsored by Rabbi David and the TBE Board of
Directors.

All members are invited to co-sponsor the gift basket to one or more TBE
members in the spirit of giving.
Co-sponsorship of a gift basket puts your name on the card that is delivered
with the gift. It shows that you care about the recipient. It’s easy to do. And it’s fun!
OK, so how much does it cost to co-sponsor?
For a donation of only $3 per basket you can have your name added to the card of your
favorite TBE member – but there are volume discounts! It’s only $18 for 10 baskets,
and $36 for 25 baskets – see the details on the back of the page. The more gift
baskets you co-sponsor, the less expensive each co-sponsored basket is!
To participate, just complete the form on the back, compute your donation, and then
send the completed form and your donation to TBE (please make checks payable to
TBE) or drop it off at the TBE office.
The deadline to submit your co-sponsorship form is March 1st!
Regardless of whether you donate, please enjoy your Shalach Manot gift
basket when it arrives, just prior to Purim this year.
