Don’t Miss Out On A Summer of Fun!!

Driveway Path Change - June 1st - Port Orchard
We will be changing the drive path around the dojo in Port Orchard on June 1st. What is now the
EXIT will become an ENTRANCE. The New EXIT will be the road on the West side of the parking
lot. It will be hard to create a new habit, so cars can still come through the old entrance for a time
while we adjust. So you don’t have to slam on the brakes if you forget the new entrance. It will be
important to go out the new Exit. The purpose of this move was to make exiting safer by having it
directly across from the gym exit and away from the entrance to the dental office. It will also allow
us for a future expansion of the dojo (more lobby?)

May is Mother’s Month at UKO
UKO is celebrating mother’s during the month of May.
FREE Month of Karate and a FREE Uniform.
If there are any Mom’s of UKO students that haven’t given Karate a try, during May they can have
a FREE Trial Month of Karate Classes and a FREE Uniform. We have many mom’s that have
come up through the ranks. You can too! And it’s great stress relief.

New “Secret” Facebook Group for UKO Families
We have created a new “Secret” Facebook group just for our UKO families and prospective families. It will have student and parent tips and practice advice. Plus, it’ll keep you up-to-date on
events, classes, schedules, and stuff like that. And it’s a great channel to ask questions and give
us your feedback.

Summer T-Shirts
Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Sensei lets us wear the white UKO T-shirt as part of our
uniform, instead of the heavy Ghi tops. This is especially nice when temperatures get over 80 degrees.
The UKO Summer T-shirt is white with the UKO Crest in black on the front.

Tag-A-Friend Contest - May 26th - June 14th
Starting May 26th we will have a contest where you can win a $500 cash prize. We will have a secret special offer only for friends of our current students. It will be a “really great” deal. We will
have the offer posted on a secret Facebook page only our students will know about. To give your
friends this great deal you go to the secret special and leave a comment on the special offer posting and tag your friends so we know to give them the special. Each tag will earn you money and a
ticket toward a drawing for the $500 prize. If your friend joins the Summer Program you earn more
money and 3 tickets toward the first prize drawing. So get your Facebook account, join the new
Secret Facebook Group for Students, and start thinking of all your friends. We will have the explanation of this contest in the Secret Facebook Group. See You There!

June is Father’s Month at UKO
Father’s Day is June 15th, so UKO will be celebrating fathers during the month of June.

Dad’s Class - June 6th 1:00 PM
We are trying to get a class together for dads on ideas, tactics and strategies for protecting your
family during an attack or emergency. We are trying to line up a speaker now. Let Janice know if
you are interested.

Morning Classes Start for Black Belt Club - June 15th
In Port Orchard we will start morning classes for Purple Belts and Higher from 10:45 to 11:45 Monday through Thursdays. No cost. We just thought this might make it so you don’t have to come
back from the Lake for evening classes.

Summer Movie Night - June 20th
The Dojo will have a movie night for students 6 to 12 years old, June 19th from 6:30 to 10:00 PM
at the Port Orchard dojo. We will have some wild and fun games, some pizza, and a movie. The
cost of this event is $20 per person. Come For FREE! You and a friend get to come for Free if
you bring a friend who has not been at UKO before. Everyone must be pre-registered with Janice!
This is a Friend Event so current UKO members and Family will not be considered friends for this
event.

Friend Week - June 22nd - 25th
This will be a fun week because Samurai and Basic Training students can bring a friend to classes
for Free this week. Friends will need a permission slip. We will post a permission slip you can
download in the Secret Facebook Group for Students.
Honors Party - June 27th
1:30 at the Port Orchard dojo. By invitation only.
Testing Week - June 29th - July 2nd
Samurai and Basic Training Students will be testing for their next belt in classes this week.
Popsicle Week - June 29th - July 2nd
We will have popsicles for students after classes this week.
JULY
Noon Movie - July 1st - Noon - 1:30 PM
For UKO students and Friends. Friends must have permission slips. We will post permission slips
in the Secret Facebook Group for Students. The movie is Alex Rider - Operation Stormbreaker,
rated PG. Children under 6 must be attended by a parent. Pre-register with Janice.
Spokane Valley Dojo Closed - July 6th - 8th
Sensei Rakentine will be going with Sensei Grout to a special martial arts conference. We will have
make-up classes July 9th - 11th.
Teen/Adult Movie Night and Pizza - July 10th
We will have a Teen/Adult movie night with Alien on Friday July 10th. We’ll provide the pizza and
scary movie. Students must be 13 yrs or older. Starts at 7:00 PM. Pre-register with Janice.

Karate Classes in the Park - July 11th
We would like to try having classes at Anderson Point Park on the water. We are concerned there
is a big issue between the County and neighbors about people parking on the road or on the
neighbors property so be extra courteous. We will have a class at 10 AM for Purple Belts and
Higher and a Class at 11:00 for Basic Training Students. There is no water available at the beach
and restrooms are a question. It is a mile walk down to the beach.

We are going to the park for classes.
Foam Sword Summer Camp - July 13th - 16th
We will be having a Foam Sword Fighting Week this Summer. We will be practicing blocks, strikes,
counter attacks, footwork, and some competition. Foam sword fighting is always a fun hit with students. Students must be 7 years or older. We will have foam swords and some helmets available.
Your regular sparring helmets with face shields will also work.

We will have a Nunchaku class for students 7 years and older from 2:00 to 2:45. Class is free you
can buy a pair of foam nunchaku ($9.00) from Janice.

Sumo Day - July 25th
We will have some Sumo Wrestling Fun for students 6 years and older from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the
Port Orchard dojo. This is a free event. But pre-register with Janice.
AUGUST
Testing Day for Purple Belts and Higher - August 1st
We will have an Escrima Stick class for students 7 years and older from 3:00 to 3:45 PM. Class is
free you can buy a pair of foam Escrima Sticks from Janice.

We will have an Escrima Stick class for students 7 years and older from 3:00 to 3:45 PM. Class is
free. You can buy a pair of foam Escrima Sticks from Janice.
Dodge Ball Summer Camp - August 3rd - 6th
We are offering a Dodge Ball Camp at the Port Orchard Dojo. This camp will run from 11:45 AM to
12:45 PM, Monday August 3rd through Thursday August 6th. We will work on strategy, and skills
as applied to many versions of the game: Dodge Ball, Star Wars, Dead Man Dodge Ball, Human
Pinball, Doctor Dodge Ball, and more….
Cost is $25
Register With Janice Now! We need a minimum of 20 registered students to hold this camp.
Hot Dog Day and Water Fight Showdown at Noon August 15th
We will have classes outside this day and Hot Dogs available after classes. And we dare you to
show up for the Water Fight at noon. Only UKO weapons allowed (leave your Super Soakers at
home. Rain or Shine!
Popsicle Week - August 10th - July 13th
