deadline for contributing to your IRA for 2015 is April 15, 2016, also the deadline for
filing your taxes. Stop by to open an IRA and/or make a contribution today. It’s never
too early or too late to start saving. Please consult your tax advisor for details on your
particular situation.
EMV Plastic Cards: What You Need To Know
EMV chip technology is becoming the global standard for
credit card and debit card payments. Named after its original
developers (Europay, MasterCard® and VISA®), the technology
features an embedded microchip that securely stores and
protects cardholder data.
Implementation of the EMV chip cards is a lengthy process and
began October 1, 2015, with merchants being required to have EMV enabled terminals
in their retail stores. It is estimated that less than a third of merchants have the EMV
enabled terminals nationwide at this time. All merchants will continue to accept magnetic
stripe cards.
The national EMV implementation plan has several phases for merchants. The October 1,
2015 date was for retailers. Gas stations have an October 2017 compliance date. The
Federal government expects all U.S. merchants to be EMV enabled by the end of 2018.
The convenience and added protection of EMV chip cards will be available for members
starting in early 2016. Security Credit Union has begun phasing in EMV chip VISA Credit
Cards, and is on track to begin phasing in EMV chip MasterCard Debit Cards in early
2016. Until then, your Security VISA Credit Card and Security MasterCard Debit Card
will continue to work just as they always have. Simply swipe your card as usual when
making purchases at merchants.
