Homework
Bag 2 School
Collection
Gold Goals
You are now able to access your child’s homework from our
website… just follow this link:
http://www.witton.worcs.sch.uk/homework/
We have a Bag 2 School collection scheduled, which is a
fundraising initiative where we ask for good quality second hand
clothing as well as soft toys, shoes, belts and handbags to be
donated. The organisation sends these items for re-use in countries
less fortunate than ourselves.
If you are having a sort out in the next couple of weeks and feel
you are able to donate such items, please bring them in to school
on Friday 9th June. Once all donations have been collected, the
school will receive a cheque based on their weight.
Keep working hard to collect those golds! The final count up is on
Friday 7th July, so you need as many as possible by then to be
eligible to take part in the non-uniform day, attend the disco and
earn maximum golden time.
Please see the attached chart for further information.
Healthy
Snacks
Thank you all for continuing to support our healthy eating standards at school.
Your child's nutritional health continues to be a focus for us as we strive for greater
health and being well in the future. With that in mind, can we politely remind you
that break time snacks must not be any foods in packets, particularly snacks high
in fat and sugar e.g. crisps, cereal bars, Winders, biscuits, chocolate bars and
sweets. They contain empty calories that will not give the lasting energy to keep
your children satisfied until lunch time. Sugary snacks also sdversely affect
concentration. Snacks that are high in carbohydrates, such as extra sandwich, are
much more beneficial as is fresh fruit or vegetable sticks. The canteen is open for
breakfast and offers a wide range of suitable food for snacks. Please ensure your
child brings their snack in a plastic container as this helps to prevent litter being
dropped around school. Children will not be allowed to eat food in packets on
the playground.
Stick
Insects
We have a population explosion of stick insects in the Science Labs! If your child
would like some as pets, please ask them to speak to Mrs Chorley, our Science
Technician, during any morning break when she can explain what is involved.
Before we can send home any stick insects your child will need to bring a suitable
container along with your written permission to Mrs Chorley.
Thank you…
To Mr and Mrs Carter, parents of ex-Witton pupils, for donating a violin to our music
department.
Punctuality
We are carefully monitoring and recording punctuality and each
time a pupil arrives late to school they will receive a negative SIMS
point on their record (with only minor exceptions for genuine
reasons). These will translate to behaviour points on their school
report.

The Witton Warbler
19th May 2017
Just a quick reminder that Witton Middle School is still working hard on increasing
attendance for this academic year. If your child is ill and really does have to be off
school, then you must call reception by 9.00am to ensure that we know that your
child is safe at home with you, otherwise we remain concerned that he/she not
arrived at school.
Attendance
Matters
Following a meeting with our Education Welfare Officer last week, it has been
decided that pupils who may have an attendance level of less than 90% will need
to provide medical evidence in order for further absences to be authorised. 90%
attendance represents 1 day absence for every 2 weeks, over the course of a
school year 90% is equivalent to 20 days absence or 1 school month which must
be detrimental to overall progress.
You may not be aware that we can support your child with taking medicines at
school. Simply make sure their medicine is clearly labelled, passed to a member of
our administrative team and a consent form is completed.
Our staff are working really hard to provide your son/daughter with the best
possible school experience so it is a big disappointment when he/she is absent
from school. If you consider that your child can make it through the day please
send them to school and we can always call you if we need to.

Water Bottles
To help your child remain hydrated, which in turns helps with their
concentration and general health, please provide your child with
a bottle (with a non-spill top) so they can drink water throughout
the day.
Scooter,
skateboards
and bicycles
We are concerned about the number of children attending school using scooters,
skateboards and bicycles in an unsafe way. We ask that you ensure that your child
has become proficient on a bicycle, by undertaking the Bikeability training in Year
6 before riding to school, and we insist that all children MUST wear a helmet.
Without this it increases the risks for all. Further to this, please remind children that,
for safety reasons, scooter, skateboards or bicycles must not be ridden once in the
school grounds.
