Join us in celebrating the wealth of arts and crafts you can enjoy in
South Lanarkshire and combining it with a great day out along the
Clyde Valley.
Have you every wanted to try your hand at a new art or craft? Why
not bring the kids and have some fun. We have got together with
the local arts and crafters of the South Lanarkshire Voluntary Arts
Forum for you to try your hand at new, fun activities.
Go on. Get out. Give it a Go.
There is so much to choose from and a whole lot of fun just waiting
for you in the Clyde Valley.
Workshops are £2 (unless stated) Please drop in.
However children must be accompanied by an adult.
Crawford
Crawford is a village and Civil Parish in South Lanarkshire,
Scotland.
Crawford is close to the source of the River Clyde and the
M74 motorway, fifty miles south east of Glasgow and fiftythree miles north west of Carlisle. It has a population of
around 300 people, two hotels, a public house, a village
shop and Post Office, church, and a school.
The village is close to an old Roman road and has
links with Sir William Wallace. Recent archaeological
excavations have shown that this was the site of a Roman
fort between 80 AD and 140 AD housing perhaps 300
soldiers.

One Stop Shop of Crafts! Come along and try your hand at a
number of different arts and crafts!
Cartoon Workshop for the children from 12 noon - 3.30pm
Can’t draw a straight line? So what? Come to this
entertaining workshop and learn to make cartoon characters
that come alive. This simple drawing technique will
transform your drawing skills and impress all your friends. It’s
so easy you’ll be able to show them too!
Glass painting Workshop for the Adults from 12 noon - 3pm
Try your hand at Glass painting in this drop in workshop led
by a local artist.
Sun printing Workshop
Cyanotype printing is an early form of photography,
distinctive for its rich indigo colouring and the ethereal
quality of the images. The prints are traditionally exposed
using sunlight and were originally adopted by botanists to
accurately capture the silhouette of the plants they studied.
Create unique prints using found objects, stencils or
prepared negatives and watch as the sunlight (or special
light bulb if it’s cloudy) magically develops your works of art.
Face painting
Children can become their favourite superhero for the day.

Crossford
Crossford village is on the Clyde Valley Tourist Route and
the community hall is located on the main road in the
village.
Craignethan Castle is an early 16th century stone tower
house and courtyard fortress, founded by Sir James
Hamilton of Finnart, located west of Crossford, off Corra
Mill Road. 5 miles north-west of Lanark, on the A72
Hidden away in the rolling hills of Clydesdale,
Craignethan Castle is the last great private stronghold
constructed in Scotland. It was without parallel,
comprising an exceptional residential tower protected
by a most unusual artillery fortification.

Puppet Workshop
From winged dragons to comedy parrots why not come
along and try your hand a creating your very own puppet.
These puppet-making workshops are a great opportunity
for younger children to be creative and acquire craft skills
alongside parents/guardians.
Paper Kites Workshop
Kites made their first appearance in China, over three
thousand years ago and were believed to have a mythical
dimension because they could soar so high! This workshop
will introduce the ancient craft of kite making and enable
you to experiment with colour, print and design to make
your own paper kite……..ready for flight!

Lanark
Lanark Memorial Hall was built in 1925 to commemorate
the 232 men from Lanark and the surrounding areas
who gave their lives in the First World War. The Grade
B listed building has recently undergone a £5.3 million
refurbishment and re-opened as a multi-purpose cultural
and community venue in 2013.
The refurbished Memorial Hall now boasts a 500 seat
auditorium as well as several meeting and activity
rooms, to allow flexible accommodation for a variety of
performances as well as conferencing and banqueting
events.
Various local heritage groups and the primary schools of
Lanark worked together to provide Lanark Memorial Hall
with ‘The Story of Lanark’ an interactive exhibition with a
wealth of information about the history and traditions of
the town.
Can – Do Robots Workshop

These friendly robots are more than just
good- looking; magnets hold their features
in place, making the “bots” the metallic
equivalent of a Mr Potato Head.

Quilling Workshop

Quilling, also known as paper filigree, is the art of rolling
narrow strips of paper and then shaping them to make the
most exquisite designs. Some sources suggest that quilling
was practised in Ancient Egypt and it is currently enjoying a
modern revival.
Jane Austen mentions it in ‘Sense and Sensibility’ and
Elizabeth, daughter of George III and the Bronte sisters were
known to be quilling enthusiasts.
Make delicate paper boxes embellished with quilling
decoration, perfect for presenting gifts.
Decopatch Workshop

People always find it hard to part with maps collected on
their travels, but more often than not they end up in a
forgotten box, discovered every few years when you do a big
clear out or move house.
In this workshop you learn how to use decoupage to attach
your maps to coasters, allowing you to reminisce daily as you
sit and sip a glass of wine in the evening or drink your cup of
coffee on a lazy Sunday. A lovely option for gifts too, creating
something truly personal for someone special.

versatile milk carton template. Make these boxes in pretty card
and dress them up with paper flowers, ribbons, buttons and

pretty storage solutions and delightful wedding favours.

Biggar
The picturesque market town of Biggar is a must day visit
on the Clyde Valley National Tourist Route.
Situated among rich farmland, it’s a great place for
shopping, if you’re looking for something different. The
town’s wide main street give away its medieval past as a
market town. For a day out Biggar is hard to beat! There is
a great collection of museums to explore and its home to
the Biggar Puppet Theatre.

Chatelherault
Chatelherault was built in 1732 as the hunting lodge
and summer house for the wealthy Duke of Hamilton.
Designed by the famous Scottish Architect William Adam,
Chatelherault now serves as the magnificent gateway to
the Country Park.
The restored buildings is now a visitor centre with display
gallery and exhibitions on the area’s history, wildlife and
the story of Chatelherault itself. The house also has a
large gift shop, café and reception area as well as meeting
rooms and conference/wedding space.
Visitors can view the Duke’s private Banqueting Room,
apartments and formal gardens. Outside, visitors can
ramble through 10 miles of stunning gorge walks along
the River Avon and through ancient woodland, some of
which is the oldest in the country.
The area is home to a wide range of wildlife including roe
deer, badgers, otters, kingfishers and more.

Here on the Chatelherault Estate Willow is grown Come and
make a fantastic willow dream catcher, which you can decorate
with feather and beads, ready for your window at home.
The Clyde Wind Farm houses more than 150 Wind turbines
and is capable of powering over 200,000 homes! You will
also make your own windmill ready to go in the garden or
window box at home.

Printing Workshop – Tuesday 8 April
Have fun exploring screen printing on fabric using simple
paper stencils with your own single colour designs or explore
colour overlays. Use natural resists, textures and mark
making to create some fascinating effects.
Shadow puppets Workshop
The workshop introduces a simple colourful technique for
creating and animating a shadow puppet and demonstrates
the use of an easily-made translucent screen.
Step right up to a Circus themed Shadow Puppet workshop!
Use simple paper cutouts and overhead projectors to cast
shadows onto a screen that spring to life with depth and
movement! Inspired by the world of the circus; make your
own tigers, trapeze artists and lion tamers. Making puppets
with moving parts and exploring the shadows they create on
the screen.

FaceFX: Blood and Gore
Ever wondered how they get the realistic wounds and
injuries in film and TV? Come along to this workshop and
learn how to do cuts, bullet wounds, burns and lots more
using professional make up. This is a hands on workshop,
interesting, fun and very messy. We recommend you don’t
