ŽARKO TREBJEŠANIN: Biography
Born in 1950 in Belgrade, where he received his doctorate at the Faculty of
Philosophy. Full professor at the University of Belgrade (at the Faculty of
Special Education and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Philosophy and Teachers
College),
where
he
teaches
Psychology
of
Personality,
Non-verbal
communication, and Introduction to general psychology.
He is the founder and editor of the edition "Psychology for the curious" in the
Institute for textbooks and teaching aids (since 2001), where he published
works of Freud, Vygotsky, Fromm, Bettelheim, Morris, Ekman, Bowlby, Seligman, Bass, Kagan and
others.
He has published several books on psychology and psychoanalysis: Fromm's dichotomies (1983); The
perception of the child in Serbian culture (1991, 2000 and 2008); Psychoanalysis - little Lexicon (1993,
2000 and 2008); What Freud really did not say (1994 and 2005); Politics and Soul (1995); Lexicon
psychoanalysis (1996, 1998, 2003, 2005 and 2012); The Psychosocial Effects of War on Children and
Parents (2001); Dictionary of Psychology (2000, 2001, 2004 and 2008); Nikola Tesla: personality,
neurosis and mission (2006); Dictionary of Jung's concepts and symbols (2008 and 2011); Freud's legacy
(2009); What Jung really did not say (2010 and 2012), Psychology of Personality (2010). Prepared and
wrote preface for more books on psychoanalysis: H. Klein, Freud, psychoanalysis and literature (1993);
Psychoanalysis at the turn of the century (proceedings) (2000); B. Bettelheim, V. Frankl, Killing the Soul
(2004); S. Freud, Anthropology essays (2005 and 2011); K. G. Jung, Archetypes and Personality
Development (2006); S. Freud, Complete Introduction to Psychoanalysis (2006); A. Adler, Knowledge man
/ Religion and individual psychology and other essays (2007). Misha Jevtic published a book of
conversations called Psychological views of Zarko Trebješanin (2003).
He won the prize "Borislav Stevanović", awarded by the Association of Psychologists of Serbia for
scientific contributions to psychology, "Veselin Lučić" for the best professional and scientific work at the
University of Belgrade, "Stojan Novakovic" for the best high school textbook, "Živorad - Žiža Vasić" for
popularization of modern psychology and "Radoje Domanović» Serbian Writers Association for his
contribution to the interpretation of satire.
Scientific studies, essays and interviews have been translated into English, Russian, French, German,
Hungarian, Macedonian and Slovenian.
