SUNDAY AFTERNOON CONCERT
APRIL 23 at 3:00 PM
Hotter Than a Pepper Sprout: America’s Music
featuring Nina et Cetera
The program includes a cross section of the most important trends in American
music ranging from blues, jazz standards, folk, country, gospel, early rock and roll
and country. Nina and Tim will perform songs made famous by Billie Holiday,
Bobbie Gentry, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Pete Seeger, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline and
many others. The singing duo will entertain you on guitar, harmonica, bass,
percussion and auto harp.
PSA SCREENING
Tuesday, April 18 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM
Senator Elaine Phillips (R-Manhasset), in conjunction with
the Integrated Medical Foundation, will be sponsoring
a free prostate cancer PSA test program for men ages 40
and over who have not previously been diagnosed with
prostate cancer, regardless of whether or not they have
insurance. Participants must bring a photo ID with his
address and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to be
notified of the results.
Appointments for the free PSA blood tests will be
scheduled on a first come, first served basis
by calling Senator Phillips’s office at 516-746-5924.

Tennessee who played a crucial role in U. S. history.
Although their jobs were shrouded in mystery, they had
a sense of shared purpose and close friendships. While
they thought they would leave Oak Ridge after the war,
many still call the town home. Through interviews of the
dozens of surviving women and others, the story of The
Girls of Atomic City tells of their significant role in an
exciting way that blends history and science and reveals
the reverberations from their work which are still being felt
today.

Women artists have been very involved in creating art
throughout history, but their work has not been as well
acknowledged as that of men. Women artists faced challenges
due to gender biases in society over the centuries. They often
encountered difficulties in training, travelling and selling
their work. This lecture will explore the role of women in
western art from the 16th to the 20th century. Sofonisba
Anguissola, Fede Galizia, Lavinia Fontana, Artemisia
Gentileschi, Angelica Kauffman, Mary Cassatt and Berthe
Morisot are a few of the female artists who will be featured
in this lecture.

You will make a scarf from an old t-shirt
which you will transform by twisting and
stretching it. You’ll find it quite physical
and fun! The scarf will be brought to a
local shelter.
You may bring an old t-shirt (needs to
be large or extra large) to make one for
yourself after you’ve made your donation.

Popular teen books and magazines will be on hand. We will
have read alouds, book talks, poetry readings and teens will
be able to read to young children at 10:00 AM if they wish.
Refreshments will be available and you will earn community
service credit. Help the hungry and donate a non-perishable
food item which will be brought to Long Island Cares.
Sign-up in the Teen Room began on March 16
and pick up a copy of the Read-A-Thon guidelines.
