Most of the earth’s surface is covered with water. Oceans have most of the earth’s water. But the water in
the oceans has too much salt in it. People cannot drink this water. People drink fresh water which is water
that is not salty. We get fresh water from rain and snow. Some of the rain water sinks into the ground, and
some flows into the rivers and streams, and some collects in lakes. The heat of the sun changes the ocean
water into vapour. This water vapour forms clouds which bring us rain and snow. Water is very valuable
natural resource because without it, there would be no life on earth. People have learnt to use water in a
variety of ways. It is used for drinking, for cleaning, for the irrigation of crops, for navigation and for producing
electricity.
