1898.HeenlistedintheBritishArmy
in1917andwaswoundedinthe
BattleofArrasinFrance.Heserved
ontheEnglishfacultyatOxford
University,wherehewasfriendswith
J.R.R.Tolkien,authorofTheHobbit
andTheLordoftheRings.In1931,
LewisconvertedtoChristianity,and
helaterbroadcasttalksabouthis
religiousbeliefs.Overhislifetime,he
publishedmanybooks,ofbothfictions
andno-fiction.HediedonNovember
22,1963,justsevendaysshortofhis
65thbirthday.
LikemanyotherpeopleinEnglandduringWorldWarII,C.S.Lewistookin
childrenwhohadbeenevacuatedfromtheirhomesbecauseoftheNaziairraidson
London.Hedidn’thaveanychildrenofhisown,andthechildrenwerealittle
intimidatedbyhim,becausehewasanoldman.Sohedecidedthebestwayhe
couldentertainthemwouldbetotellthemstories.Oneofthosestoriesbecamethe
basisofthefantasyseriesforwhichheisbestknown,TheChroniclesofNarnia.The
seriesconsistsof7books:TheLion,WitchandtheWardrobe(1950),PrinceCaspian:

LeClanchéduRandisanactress,playwright,anddramatherapist.Originally

toursthroughouttheU.S.,andinthenation’sleadingregionaltheatres.Shehasalso
appearedinwell-knownfilmsincludingAwakeningsandSleeplessinSeattle.Shehas
adaptedandpublishedseveralplaysforyoungpeopleinadditiontoTheLion,the
