Take control of insects with Meridian insecticide. Stay a step ahead of insects It’s a fresh look at insect control. That’s what one might say about the much-anticipated Meridian™ insecticide. Meridian allows you to take control of pest issues with its broadspectrum efficacy and longer application window. There’s even added control from a formulations perspective with a 25WG, a wettable granule for spray, and a 0.33G, a granule that can be spread. Its low soil adsorption and high solubility contribute to rapid and efficient uptake and xylem transport in plants leading to quicker insect control. l A new active ingredient Meridian is the brand for thiamethoxam, a thianicotinyl insecticide in the neonicotinoid class, and a new active ingredient for turf and landscape plants. This A.I. allows Meridian to control a wide spectrum of sucking and chewing pests at very low rates through contact and ingestion activity. Meridian is quickly effective in both foliar and soil applications. In foliar uses, Meridian dries quickly and is taken into the leaf, providing fast insect control. When applied to the soil, Meridian is absorbed and transported to the upper portions of the plant, while still remaining available for sub-surface control. This is due, in part, to its solubility, which allows the product to move through organic matter for very effective control of soil insects. ™ l Key attributes Relative Percentage Comparisons of Imidacloprid vs. Meridian 5 4 3 l Broader-spectrum control While it’s an outstanding product for grub control, Meridian is much more. Many species of insects are thoroughly controlled with Meridian. Many soil pests, including billbugs and white grubs, (Japanese beetles, Oriental beetles, European, Southern masked and Northern masked chafer among others) are all controlled with Meridian. Foliar and landscape pests such as aphids, whiteflies, mealybugs, and leafhoppers are also controlled. Meridian provides effective suppression of both chinchbugs and mole crickets. It is notably faster than the leading competitor when curatively treating fire ants. When used as a mound drench, Meridian provides the same control in just four to five days as compared with 60 days using the leading insecticide. 2 1 0 Foliar uptake 3 DAA Imidacloprid Soil uptake 3 DAA Above 90% white grub control Meridian Soil availability 1=20% Solubility Irrigation interval after application 5=100% Ratings are compiled from an aggregate of Syngenta and university research. l Efficiency of use on trees and shrubs Meridian travels more efficiently, or translocates through the xylem, better and faster than other insecticides. This degree of uptake, along with excellent plant tolerance, gives the superintendent the versatility for use on turf, trees, and shrubs. This systemic mode of action makes Meridian effective as a basal drench, helping preserve optimal conditions on the course and its surrounding landscape. Application Timing Window Japanese Beetle Larvae Control Preventive 100 Curative 90 80 % Control l Use as a preventive Meridian is most effective for use on the course as a preventive product. There is a wide window of application, allowing for greater tolerance regarding the precise time of application, to maintain season-long control. It can be used in either a split preventive application or a single application, whichever works best for the superintendent based on his geography and agronomic practices. 70 60 50 40 l Use as a curative Meridian is also labeled for curative control. The curative action is effective through late second instar. The fast systemic movement of the product in the turf blade and fast mode of action provides a quicker speed of effectiveness than the leading product when used curatively. 30 Highly efficacious across a broad application window. 20 E-May L-May E-Jun Meridian 12.7 oz/A L-Jun E-Jul L-Jul E-Aug L-Aug Meridian 17 oz/A Labeled rates per units of area Rates of 25WG per area (oz) Rates of 0.33G per area (lbs) Labeled rates range Area New A.I. in turf market • Broader-spectrum insect control • Controls grubs and a variety of soil and foliar pests • Wide window of preventive control • Quick, effective curative control 12.7 oz/A 17 oz/A 60 lbs/A 80 lbs/A 1,000 ft2 0.3 0.4 1.4 1.8 5,000 ft2 1.5 2.0 7.0 9.0 3.0 4.0 14.0 18.0 1 acre 12.7 17 60 80 10 acres 127 170 600 800 10,000 ft2 The one online information source with the innovative services and technologies to help you manage your turf and ornamental needs.
