Junk Modelling and Old Greeting Cards
We are always very grateful for any empty plastic
bottles, cardboard boxes, bottle tops, egg cartons,
empty milk cartons or other containers that are no
longer needed. We also always need any old greeting
cards for our mark making areas for the children to
use. Thank you!
Requests
Children love the home corner (roleplay)
area and play imaginatively. If you have any
items that you wouldn’t mind donating that
will add to this area such as dolls, dolls
dresses, capes, children’s kitchen utensils etc,
we would really appreciate it and so would
the children.
Thank you.
Wellies
There are some wellies outside Miss Bailey’s and Miss Hartley’s classroom from last year. Please can you ensure your
child’s wellies fit. May you also place your child’s wellies for this year onto the blue trolley outside Mrs Platt’s classroom by
the wetsuits. If you do not wish to keep your old child’s wellies, please let us know as we will either keep them as spare or
donate them to charity.
Welcome to Reception. All the children are beginning to settle in well and are having
lots of fun exploring their new environment and resources. If you have any questions
please do not hesitate to come and speak to Miss Bailey or Miss Hartley. We hope you
and your child will enjoy all the activities and experiences that we will be planning this
half term.
Our topic this half term is ’All About Ourselves’
As part of our topic we would really appreciate your input.
Please could you send one small photograph showing family members who are important to your child. Please
could you write your child’s name on the back of the photograph and also family names. We will then give your
child the opportunity to show their photograph to the rest of the class and talk about who is in their family. This
photograph will then be displayed on their working wall. Thank you.
Staff members in Reception
Since the EYFS induction meeting there has been a few
changes with staffing and we are excited to have Mrs
Harter and Mrs Sullivan as part of the Reception team.

Miss Bailey – Class Teacher
Mrs Harter – Teaching Assistant
RH
Miss Hartley – Class Teacher

PE Kits
We have now started PE, could
we ask that you send your
child’s PE clothing in as soon as
possible please.
Plain Black Pumps
Navy Shorts
White T-Shirt
Please ensure all items above
are clearly labelled & in a
named P.E. Bag.
Reception fund
We would greatly appreciate if all parents could contribute to our Reception class fund. Parents are
asked to contribute £6 each term or £35 for the full reception year and return in cash in the envelope provided. Many thanks for your support with this, the money will help us greatly and is very
much appreciated. We will keep you updated with what we have purchased.
Water bottles
Children in Reception do not need to bring a water
bottle into class as they have access to cups and
water all day. We encourage the children to pour
their own water, which is great for their fine motor
skills, and then put their dirty cup into the sink for
the teacher to wash. We found it unhygienic for
water bottles in Reception as some children will just
drink from any water bottle.
PPA Time
Miss Bailey and Miss Hartley have
PPA (planning, preparation and
assessment) every Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Winterbottom will work in
Miss Bailey’s class and Mrs Aspinall
will work in Miss Hartley’s class
during those afternoons.
Mrs Winterbottom (HLTA) will be in Reception in the
mornings and will float between both classes.
Book Bags
Please can we ask for book bags to be brought in everyday as we will
pass letters, information, reading books and homework through the
book bag. Please empty these bags daily. Could we also ask that only
one key ring be attached to the book bag, if any. Otherwise they do
not fit into the trays and prevents other children accessing their trays
too.
Reading books
We have now started to send your child home with a reading book and key words. Please would you practice
your child’s key words with them daily, this will support them greatly as they read their individual books. The
keys words will have words that the children can sound out (decodable words) and the words in bold are words
the children can not sound out (tricky words). Your child will have a guided reading session once a week with
their class teacher and will also be heard twice a week with various staff members for their individual read of
their book that they take home.
