Letter from the President
Welcome again to the 2011-2012 hockey season. Let me start out this month’s letter by thanking all of you – the parents
for the time that you’ve already put in to have your skater(s) ready for the start of the season. I know many of you have
spent a lot of time and money on the development of your skater’s skills in the off-season; and between that commitment
and your skater’s dedication to becoming a better hockey player during the off-season, it made for some very, very competitive nights of tryouts.
All of our skaters should be congratulated for their efforts and dedication this past week during tryouts. I realize it’s a tough
week – on both the skaters and you, over the course of four nights. But I hope you and your skater can appreciate and understand the value of having tryouts over the course of four nights, in that it gives your skater a better chance to overcome
one bad night’s showing, if they unfortunately have one. My thanks to the members and board members who initiated
some changes to the Tryout/Player Selection process for this season; and to Eddie MacDonald (Director of Player Development & Director of Coaching) for all of his time and dedication to develop a schedule for, and the management of this process for our association. My thanks also to Jeremy Grannan for getting the rosters posted on the website so quickly last
Thursday night, so that all of the skaters and their families could see the results of their efforts.
Thanks also to the coaches who have stepped forward and committed to volunteer their time to develop your skaters this
season! I know our coaches will work tirelessly with our skaters to compete this season at Division 2. I think it’s fair to say
that WCYHA has a target on their backs this season; and I fully expect a number of organizations to be ‘gunning for us’ this
season, given last season’s overall successes………..winning State Championships will do that for you! But with the talented
rosters and coaching staffs that we have, I fully expect us to be up to the challenge. We will probably not win every game
at every level at Division 2; but we will compete. There is room in the trophy case for the ‘woodwork’, and there’s room
on the walls for the banners - for the teams that are committed.
Your teams will be assigned work weeks throughout the season, just as you have had in previous years. The regular workweek items that need to be completed will be on the white board for you; and in addition, we have a number of items on
the building project that we need your assistance as well. If we can get the help to show up, we can get our fitness center,
lower level locker rooms and our upper level concessions up and running over the next 30 to 45 days. Please………lend a
hand for an hour or so while you’re attending your skater’s practice; or volunteer a few hours of your time on Wednesday
evenings or Saturday mornings. Check the website frequently for different areas of need; but understand……..we may not
be able to give you specifics as to what exactly you will be doing, because the status of these areas will change quickly as
things do get done. If you come dressed in work clothes on Wednesday nights or Saturday mornings, Rick, Craig or John
will do their best to put you to work in the areas of need associated with your skill level. We need to get these areas finished and operational, as soon as possible; as we had budgeted for these areas to be complete months ago.
I know that the thanks I give here won’t do justice and I won’t name names for fear of leaving someone out……….but
thanks again to all those involved in organizing and running the Golf Outing and the Liquor & Laces
events. Both events were once again resounding successes for our association, with the Golf Outing raising approximately
$7,000 for our operations and the LNL event raising around $29,000 for the Building Expansion Project. On behalf of the
Board of Directors and the entire membership, THANK YOU!!!!!
Our next major fundraising event will be the March Meltdown 2012 – our 3rd annual 3 on 3 tournament, to be held on
March 16-18, 2012. A number of the people associated with organizing the last two year’s events will not be returning
this year (as they’re no longer affiliated with WCYHA, and actually weren’t even affiliated with us last year already – but
agreed to help us and stayed on the committee); so we are in need of a significant number of people to head up the organization of this year’s event. If you are interested in taking a lead role in organizing this tournament or in being on the committee for this event March, please contact me as soon as possible. March might seem like a long ways away right
now…………..but The Meltdown will come quickly. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
As always, feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns!
Todd

2011 WCYHA Golf Outing Fundraiser Event.
WCYHA Members and Families,
I wanted to send everyone an update for the huge success that we had again this year in the golf outing. It
was great to see the huge turnout considering that we were up against a Badger Home game and the referee’s clinic being conducted at the rink on the same day. But in typical Washington County fashion, the parents, sponsors, and supporters of the association pulled out all the stops and came through with flying colors in supporting this event.
I have to say it has been great over the last 4 years to be part of this event and see it grow to what it has
become this year. We had 140 golfers and 10 people that just signed to come for the lunch after the event.
This number is up from last year by about 25 people. The revenue that we brought in with sponsorships and
golfer registrations after expenses was $10,000.00. This is the most we have raised during the last 4 years
at this event. So it was a huge success! If you have not already done so please visit our website and check
out the photos that have been posted. It was a great day for the weather as well as for the golf.
I want to thank a few people that were part of the golf committee and those who volunteered on the day of the event.
Without these people it would be impossible to run this event. Thank you Jeremy Grannan, Doug Werner, Joanna Perdzock,
Charlene Henneberry, Jodi Liddicoat, Stefanie Hester, Eric Kubiak, Patty Ruona, Pat Michaelson, Andy Rawson, and Tess
Kopecky. All of these people helped out in numerous ways and truly these are the people that made this event such a great
success this year.
This event has been growing year after year and as such we have seen a huge impact in raising capital for the association
to help with the building expansion as well as to support our general operations. We are also starting to see the event attract attention of the surrounding community since we are now attracting players and sponsors that have nothing to do
with the association but enjoy the activity and see it as a great investment in the youth of our area.
Thanks once again for making this event a success and mark your calendars for September 8, 2012 for the 5 th Annual
Washington County Golf Fundraiser.
Have a great season on all of your respective teams and I’ll see you around the rink this year.

Liquor N Laces 2011
Liquor N Laces - another HUGE success!
Many of the members of WCYHA contributed their time and effort to ensuring that
the second annual Liquor N Laces event was another huge success for the organization. The event was held on September 17 at West Bend Mutual's Prairie Center. It
featured lots of appetizers, beer and wine tasting, a raffle, a silent auction, liquor
pull, penalty box and a live auction that included vacations, a pheasant, hunt, big
screen TV and a beautiful pendant necklace. The event was well attended and raised
just under $30,000 for the association. THANK YOU to all members who helped out
at the event, who donated items or liquor to the raffle, auction and liquor pull, and
thank you to the committee members who worked for many weeks to ensure that
the event was such a great success. We appreciate all that you do for the association! Thanks for making a difference!
