NOVEMBER 2010 Neighbourhood Update from Tom Bowles and Sadia Akram Seasons grittings In readiness for the winter we have a supply of grit already on site. In the past there have been incidences of grit being stolen from the grit boxes. To avoid this we are keeping our supply in locked storage and we will distribute enough (but not all) to all the grit boxes when appropriate. Consider your neighbours this festive season As we approach the festive season can we please remind everyone that if you are going to have a party to let your neighbours know and not to let music or noise disturb anyone after 11pm. Just a little consideration for your neighbours will go a long way. Parking permits update In 2011 un-numbered permits will no longer be valid on the estate. Please make sure you get your new numbered permit from the Neighbouthood Office. Each household is entitled to one parking permit and two visitors permits. We are numbering the permits so we can manage the parking better they will all have your registration number on (for whatever vehicle you wish to nominate) and a date of expiry which matches the day of expiry of your tax disc. The visitors permits will need to renewed every three months. Get in the Christmas spirit – pensioners trip to the panto It’s not Christmas in the east end without a panto! They manage to do this by pretending to be a legitimate visitor – someone from your landlord, council, a salesperson from a well known company. They may even impersonate workmen and say that they need to check something or make urgent repairs. Please do not let anyone in to your block that you do not know. We are receiving increasing reports of smoking eating and drinking on the stairwells. Smoking in a communal area is not only a health issue but it is also illegal to smoke in this area. The mess caused by eating and drinking creates other hazards on the stairs and extra work for our cleaners. Please remember that if anyone is visiting you or your children, that you remain responsible for their behaviour at all times they are on the estate. We will be putting signs up reminding everyone about this but we need your help to keep unwelcome visitors out and to make sure your guests are aware that anything they do - you will be held to account for. These types of bogus caller all want to steal from you, trick you, or overcharge you for work that they do. Therefore it is very important to make sure any callers to your home are genuine. Use these 3 simple steps to check: 1. Stop. Think before you open the door. Are you expecting anyone? 2. Chain. Secure the door bar to your chain before opening the door. 3. Check. Use the door viewer if you have one to see who it is or ask for proof of identity. If the caller doesn’t have an appointment, tell them to wait outside while you ring their office to confirm their identity. Anyone from East Thames or any of our contractors, including Axis, will always have photographic identification with them. If you have any suspicions at all - do not let the caller into your home. If you think you may be at risk then call the Police - dial 999.
