Permit Information Mushroom permits are required to collect mushrooms in the Mount Hood and Gifford Pinchot National Forests and on Sauvie Island. These are separate permits in addition to Forest Passes or the Sauvie Island parking permit. Information changes, so always check for updates before you go. Mt. Hood If you are planning to pick and transport mushrooms from the Mt. Hood National Forest, you MAY need a permit: ► A Free Use Permit or Fee Permit (depending on quantity) will be required to pick and remove mushrooms from Mt. Hood National Forest for personal use ► A permit will not be required to pick and consume small quantities of mushrooms while on Mt. Hood National Forest. Examples: hiking, camping backpacking, picnicking. ► Picking mushrooms for personal use in the Old Maid Flats (Zigzag) area is limited to 20 persons per day in the fall and requires a separate dated permit sheet available from the Zigzag Ranger Station.
