Permit Information
Mushroom permits are required to collect mushrooms in the Mount Hood and Gifford Pinchot National
Forests and on Sauvie Island. These are separate permits in addition to Forest Passes or the Sauvie
Island parking permit. Information changes, so always check for updates before you go.
Gifford Pinchot

Number of days the permit is valid  10 days may be non-consecutive
Harvest limits  1 permit for 3 gallons per day for 10 days per calendar year
Permits for Gifford Pinchot National Forest are free and available at the following locations:
►Gifford Pinchot National Forest Headquarters, 10600 NE 51st Circle, Vancouver, Washington; 360891-5000; Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
►Mt. Adams Ranger Station, 2455 Highway 141, Trout Lake, Washington; 509-395-3400; Monday –
Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm closed for lunch 12:00 noon – 1:00 pm; permits available from 8:00 am to
11:45 am, and 1:00 pm to 4:15 pm. (Saturday and Sunday hours generally begin sometime in May or
June)
►Cowlitz Valley Ranger District,10024 US Hwy 12, Randle, WA 98377, 360-497-1100; 8:00 am to 4:30
pm; Monday-Friday; closed for lunch 12:00 noon –1:00 pm.
►Mt. St. Helens National Monument, 42218 NE Yale Bridge Road, Amboy, Washington; 360-449-7800;
Monday–Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm.
►Home Valley Store, 50151 Highway 14, Stevenson, Washington (4 mi past Carson turn-off); 509-4274015; Monday - Saturday, 6:00 am – 8:00 pm, Sunday, 7:00 am – 7:00 pm.
Mt. Hood
If you are planning to pick and transport mushrooms from the Mt. Hood National Forest, you MAY need a
permit:
► A Free Use Permit or Fee Permit (depending on quantity) will be required to pick and remove
mushrooms from Mt. Hood National Forest for personal use
► A permit will not be required to pick and consume small quantities of mushrooms while on Mt. Hood
National Forest. Examples: hiking, camping backpacking, picnicking.
► Picking mushrooms for personal use in the Old Maid Flats (Zigzag) area is limited to 20 persons per
day in the fall and requires a separate dated permit sheet available from the Zigzag Ranger Station.

Sauvie Island
Permits are free and available at the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Office on the island;
Monday–Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm; closed for lunch 12:00 noon-1:00 pm. If you call Karen in advance at
