List the words on the board that students will need to find examples of in each video Students will use plain paper and a pencil to make a T-chart (see below) Print the Venn Diagram (see below) and use a document camera with markers so students can write on the paper LCD projector will be used INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY - SETTING THE STAGE : MATERIALS: (remember to number each step) 1. Bring up an electronic map of the Americas 600-1450 from online World Book Encyclopedia 2. Google earth could be used too, so students can see the location and terrain of these cultures 3. Viewing each video, they will list what they see from the word list; noting things about geography, dates of empire habitations and expansions, engineering feats, type of art work done, history of the empire, the culture (people), archeological evidence and religious practices 4. These T-charts will be collected and graded. This activity could prepare students for the upcoming trip. Community members with a Mexican heritage can speak about their connections to the past and how that affects their culture today.
