The Laurens Raiders traveled to Woodmont to take on the Wildcats Friday night and there was
a heavy mist but no lightning in the sky all during the game.… However there was plenty of
lightning on the field especially in the 1st half as the Raiders put 48 points on the board in route
to a 55-22 win.
The Wildcats took the opening kickoff and drove 35 yards after a big kickoff return and scored
with 8:53 left in the 1st quarter to make the score 7-0 Wildcats.
The Raiders drove down to the Woodmont 34 yard line on their 1 st possession of the game but
the drive bogged down as they turned it over on downs to the Wildcats… The Raider defense
then held Woodmont 23 and out and forced to punt with reserve a short and the Raiders took
over on the Wildcat 48 yard line… From there it took the Raiders 7 plays to score with DQ
Floyd carrying it in from the 5 yard line… Irvin Angeles added the PAT and the game was tied
7-7 with 4:29 left in the 1st quarter.
The Raiders then had a short kickoff which the Wildcats failed to cover but the Raiders
Raheem Johnson did cover the ball to give the Raiders the ball at the Woodmont 42 yard
line… After a 23 yard pass from Toby Jackson to Kezario Whitmore Floyd picked up his 2nd
touchdown of the night on a 10 yard run with Angeles added the PAT to make the score 14-7
Raiders.
On the ensuing short kickoff, the Raiders were penalized for fair catch interference which gave
the Wildcats the ball at the Raiders 44 yard line… However the Raider defense held them and
forced to punt with the Raiders taking over at their own 22 yard line.
The Raiders were penalized 5 yards before they could get a playoff in the offense failed to pick
up a 1st down… The snap to the potter was high over his head and went into the end zone
where he covered it and in the Wildcats covered him for a safety… This made the score 14-9
Raiders which is 42 seconds left in the 1st quarter.
During their 1st possession of the 2nd quarter, Kezario Whitmore picked off the Wildcat pass
and returned it for a TD to make the score 20-9 as the extra point attempt failed with 11:03
showing on the clock in the 2nd quarter.
The Raider defense held the Wildcats to a single 1st down on the next possession and they
punted the ball with the Raiders taking over at their own 49 yard.. Behind the running of Troy
Dendy and DQ Floyd the Raiders moved it down to the Wildcat 1 yard line and 7 plays then
Toby Jackson carried it over the goal line from there… Angeles PAT was good and the
Raiders led 27-9 with 5:46 left in the half.
The Wildcats then fumbled the ensuing kickoff return and it was recovered by Chuck Johnson
to set the Raiders up on the Wildcat 19 yard line… Two plays later Troy Dendy carried it in
from 11 yards out… Angeles added the PAT to make the score 34-9 with 5:01 left in the half.
The Raiders defense then held the Wildcats to 3 and out and after a short punt the Raiders
took over at the Woodmont 41 yard line… On the 1st play from scrimmage Toby Jackson
connected with Chris Statom for the touchdown and Angeles again added the PAT to make the
score 41-9 with 3:22 left in the half.
The Raiders were not true scoring in the half however, as the defense once again held
Woodmont 23 and out and after another short punt took over at the Woodmont 31 yard line…
After a 14 yard run by Troy Dendy, Jackson again scored from 17 yards out with Angeles
added the PAT to make the score 48-9 with 49 seconds left in the half… That is where the
score stood when the teams broke for halftime.
During the halftime the coaches and officials agree to use a running clock and after the 1st
possession Coach Liner substituted freely the remainder of the game.
The Wildcats did score one time in the 3rd quarter taking advantage of her Raider fumble and
the score 3 plays later on a drive that totaled only 17 yards… The score then stood 48-16
Raiders with 1:27 left in the 3rd quarter.
The Raiders final score of the game came with 6:52 left in the contest when Thomas Jones
scored from 18 yards out and Angeles added the PAT to make the score 55-16 Raiders…
Chuck Johnson and Jamarius Mack Rust for the bulk of the yardage in the 13 play 66 yard
drive.
The Wildcats last score came during their next possession when they went 69 yards in 9 plays
to score but the PAT was blocked so the score became 55-22 with 2:23 left in the contest.
The Raiders were then able to run out the clock to pick up their 3rd win and go 2-0 in region
play… The Raiders had 341 yards of total offense to Woodmont’s 186… For more statistics
