Debbie (Deb) Semmelroth, DNP, MA,
RN is a former Assistant Professor of
Nursing at The College of St. Scholastica
in Duluth, MN. With more than 28 years
of experience as a registered nurse, Dr.
Semmelroth has taught mental health
nursing to undergraduate nursing
students. In addition, Dr. Semmelroth,
through her work at the Birch Tree
Center in Duluth, provides stabilization
and a healing environment for those
experiencing mental health crises. She cofacilitates a monthly grief support group
for family/friends who have lost a loved
one to suicide and is a speaker on suicide
prevention and the bereaved. She serves
on the local NAMI Duluth Area Board of
Directors, is a member of America Holistic
Nurses Association and was recipient of
the 2014 St. Mary’s Grief Support Center
facilitator of the year.
Laura Nechanicky-Booth, MS, LMFT
is Clinical Treatment Director at Birch
Tree Center in Duluth, which provides
a 24 hour Crisis Response Team and
Residential Crisis Stabilization in a healing
environment for those experiencing mental
health crisis. She is a trainer in CIT (Crisis
Intervention Training), an innovative
police based first responder program that
has become nationally known. CIT works
in partnership with those in mental health
care to provide a system of services that
is friendly to the individuals with mental
illness, family members, and the police
officers. In addition Laura is a Marriage
and Family Therapist and has assisted
individual, couples, adolescents and
families cope with various mental health
issues, as well as facilitated groups in
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. She serves
on the Southern St. Louis County Family
Children’s Collaborative. She is involved
in area events to promote and educate
the community on mental health and
resources.
