Doubles Plus One Activities The activities below require the use of small items, coins, a 10-sided die, deck of cards, or Uno cards. A number line or ten frame mat can also be used for extra support. Count and add Set out a number of items for your child to count. Then, add a second group of the same number of items as they first group. Last, add one more. Have your child count how many items there are in all. Encourage your child to count on from where he/she left off, but if necessary, he/she may count all items again. Then, ask your child to say or write the math fact. Example: 5+6=11. Roll and add a double Roll a ten sided dice. Add the number to itself. Then, add one more. Say the fact aloud or write it down.. Example: 9 + 10 = 19. Flip and add one more Shuffle the number cards from a standard deck of cards or Uno deck. Place the cards face down in a pile. Flip a card over. Add the number to itself. Then, add one more. Say the fact aloud or write it down. Example: 3+4 =7. Coin Counting Set out a number of pennies for your child to count. Add a second group of pennies that has the same amount as the first group. Then add one more and ask your child to count how many there are in all. If your child can easily identify nickels and dimes, try replacing 5 pennies with a nickel and 10 pennies with a dime to make the activity more challenging.
