AWT Supplier
Of the Year
...... by Paul Peacock
We get calls every
week from customers
apologizing for asking
what they consider to
be a silly question.
We discussed the flexibility of the feed
schedule and how it can be set to feed by
weekday or by a cycle calendar of 1 to 28
days and how it has 12 feeds that can be
scheduled.
First of all, there is no
such thing as a silly
question, except “What
is the air-speed velocity of an un-laden
swallow?” when it comes to Lakewood
Instruments controllers. Of course we all
know the answer to that one is “What do you
mean? An African or European swallow?”.
(Ed just called me a geek.) Do you hear two
coconuts
banging
together
in
the
background?
We discussed the purpose and how to
perform a pre-feed bleed. We discussed
how to calculate a pre-feed bleed setpoint
(This was covered in a previous newsletter).
We are here to answer your questions.
Whether it is on the phone, in person, or at
one of our training classes, such as the one
we are giving on June 21 at the Holiday Inn
Express in Palatine, IL.
As an example, I was recently asked how to
program a biocide feed on a model 1575e.
Now, as many of you know, I have been with
Lakewood for over 19 years, so this
question was one that I could answer in my
sleep (and probably have).
We discussed that it is a two-step process.
The first step is to tell the relay that it is a
feed schedule relay in the RELAYS menu.
The second is to program the schedule in
the FEED SCHEDULE menu.

We discussed the lockout time and its
purpose.
We also discussed how the
system is still protected from exceeding any
conductivity limits because the high
conductivity alarm will force a bleed off to
occur. The bleed off feature of the high
alarm was designed specifically for this
purpose and sometimes people find out
about this feature when the bleed off occurs
below the relay setpoint when the controller
is improperly programmed with the high
alarm set below the relay setpoint.
I could have said “Press CLR, Press 2,
Press 3, Press 3 etc.. but it was well worth
the time to explain how and why we program
feed schedules the way we do. When we
were
done,
he
had
a
thorough
understanding of the feed schedule function
for ALL Lakewood controllers.
So, please ask away.
The 1512e Conductivity and pH or
ORP controller is back and better
than ever.
