Course Description
This program will provide attendees with the
knowledge to provide care for the most common
injuries sustained by the rodeo athlete. It will cover
acute care, late reconstruction and preventative
methods to limit injury in the rodeo athlete. The
meeting is intended for physicians, athletic trainers,
and allied health personnel who participate in the
medical care of the rodeo athlete in their local
community, or provide medical coverage at local,
regional and national rodeos. The meeting will have
a special emphasis on case based learning with the
addition of case based panel discussion as well.
Ample time for questions and discussion guided by
experienced moderators is also provided.
Learning Objectives
This CME activity is designed to help the attendee
reach a baseline knowledge level about a wide
variety of injuries seen in the rodeo athlete. This
will help the attendee develop treatment protocols
and prevention strategies when caring for these
athletes that is consistent with other providers
participating in the care of the rodeo athlete. At the
conclusion of this program, the participants
should be able to:
1. Identify the rodeo athlete with a head injury, and
develop a treatment plan.
2. Assess the potential benefits of preventative
taping, bracing and other measures to prevent
injuries.
3. Develop protocols for the management of both
life threatening injuries and chronic conditions in
rodeo.
4. Develop protocols for the management of rodeo
injuries including but not limited to hip injury, head
and facial injuries, upper extremity and shoulder
injuries, ACL injuries and non-traumatic conditions
commonly evaluated in a rodeo athlete.
