Tbilisi is a capital and largest city of Georgia. Georgia is renowned
for its variety of landscape. Georgia has a lot to offer to travellers.
Mainly, tourists can see historical monuments, great masterpieces of
fine arts, ancient cultures and traditions still preserved in remote and
inaccessible villages and mountainous provinces, majestic Caucasian
Mountains, spectacular resorts and national parks, delicious Georgian
cuisine and wine, friendly and hospitable people. Georgia has a proud
and completely unique polyphonic tradition of song. Tbilisi is situated
on the Kura River in a central part of the country and is a major
economic, transportation and cultural centre.
Although settlements have existed on the site since 4000 BC, T’bilisi was not mentioned until the
4th century. According to legends, it was founded in the 4th century by King Vakhtang Gorgasali, on
the site of its warm mineral water springs – it developed into the main
city of the Caucasus.
In the 5th century it became the capital of Iberia, a kingdom of
Eastern Georgia. The city suffered frequently during succeeding
centuries from raids by Byzantines, Arabs, Persians, Mongols, Seljuk
Turks, and tribes of the Caucasian region. It was, however, the capital
of an independent Georgian state in the 12th and 13th centuries. The
last great raid occurred in 1795, when Persian troops invaded and
sacked the city.
The main attractions of city are: Mtatsminda (Holy
Mountain), Sameba Cathedral Church the beating heart of Georgian
Orthodoxy, Metekhi and Sioni Churches standing proudly above
the river on a cliff-top, old town, Rustaveli avenue and many others.
The part of old Town is wonderful with winding roads, alleys and
wooden balconies. Georgian Unique Architecture famous with
Simplicity of forms, efficient design, harmonious proportions,
delicate ornamentation and a perfect harmony with the surrounding
landscape. It is mainly represented by the numerous churches and fortresses in Tbilisi.
We will be happy to welcome You in Tbilisi, at the
comfortable conference centre of the Hotel Vere Palace, well
equipped in order to make good teaching atmosphere in the
center of the city. This Course will give you the chance to
meet your colleagues and friends, introduce yourself with the
rich, ancient Georgian culture, enjoy hospitality of Georgian
people and have a good time in this beautiful rose’s period of
spring in Tbilisi.
We look forward to welcoming you to Tbilisi, Georgia.
