Minister opens New Web site.
Hon Maggie Barry ONZM as Minister
for Seniors, recently said “I am
committed to being a strong advocate
for older New Zealanders and to
ensuring they are able to age
positively in age-friendly communities.
I want more seniors to be connected,
to have access to the information they
need, to be more independent and to lead meaningful
lives”. This is why we have a new web site.
The new http://superseniors.msd.govt.nz/ website
will be an important gateway where Seniors can access
information specifically tailored to be useful and
relevant. There will be fresh information about
entitlements and the support available from the
Government, including SuperGold card discounts. The
new website will provide information which will help
people make the most of their senior years. The web
site also contains a variety of articles and links on
volunteering, how to use technology, keeping fit,
remaining healthy and staying connected to the
community. Like News, content on the SuperSeniors
web site will keep changing so it’s important to visit
regularly and stay well informed.

Collections are not clutter… !
Particularly in the Retirment stage of life we often look arround us
and marvel at the things wer have gathered or collected over
time. The hobby of collecting includes seeking, locating,
acquiriong, organising, cataloguing, displaying, storing and
maintaining whatever items are of interest to us. The scope of
copllecting is unlimited. If something exists, someone somewhere
will collect them. Many collecvtions are extreemly valuable.
Antiques are collectible items at least 100 years old, while
collectibles can be arbitrarily recent. Collectors and dealers may
use the word vintage to describe older collectibles. Items which
were once everyday objects may now be
collectible since almost all those once
produced have been destroyed or discarded
and are called Ephemera. Philately,
phillumeny, and deltiology (collecting
postage
stamps,
matchboxes
and
postcards) are forms of collecting which can
be undertaken at minimal expense.
Collecting is for some people a childhood hobby, but for others a
lifelong pursuit or one which begins in adulthood. Collectors who
begin early in life often modify their aims when they get older.

From President Barbara’s Podium
Greeting’s everyone, well the bite of Winter is upon us and its
time to keep those chills and ills away. If you have not done so it
its worth having a. chat to your Doctors Nurse about 2016
FREE seasonal influenza vaccination.
Recently we printed and distributed 1,000 information brochures
throughout Levin in the likes of GP’s waiting rooms aiming to tell
the public about who we are and what we do. We thank the
‘Central PHO’ for their kind sponsorship of the brochure. It is
really important that we invite and encourage new members
when they come to Senior Cits, do please make this a priority.
