Primitivism Primitivism art is a modern art style painted to expressed philosophy of life or the wild. The wild painting doesn’t represent nowadays wild but the natives and tribal painting. ! Primitivism was influenced by the Europeans in Africa during the 19th century. Europeans took the environment in Africa and the lifestyle there which made the Europeans interested so they apply the african style with a bit of their European style. Henri Rousseau was a famous primitivist. He was born in 1844-1910He was one most influential artist, his paintings influenced many artists after him. His most famous artwork is La Bohémeinne endormie or the Sleeping gypsy. ! Pablo Picasso was also another famous artist, he started the paint when he was eight, he was a cubists and also painted primitivism paintings. This is an artwork by Henri Rousseau named The Sleeping Gypsy, this artwork had expressed its style of the wild by using a random lion, walking beside a sleeping person. This painting is considered as a good primitivism painting, the lion from nowhere came to a sleeping person, as you look closely, the thing the person is sleeping on is an Italian style object which this had interpreted different meanings for example to show the significance of African culture and an Italian object. Impressionism Impressionism art is a piece of art that uses color and tone, and add light into the painting. Impressionists usually paint something from outside or an outside image so that he could add in the light. ! This style of art was developed during the 1860s. Back then, the paintings has its theme but artists found out that the theme does not really matter, the place and all the materials to paint is more important. Claude Monet, a very famous french impressionist artistt Oil paint. who started to learn to paint from looking out the window and drew what he saw. He was born in 1840, and was interested in water lilies and nature. ! Camille Pissarro was also Claude Monet’s and Edgar Degas’s friend when he was studying in arts. When Pissarro turned 12, he left his boarding school and attend to the master of arts. This painting is called Sunrise painted by Claude Monet, a famous french impressionist. This painting is considered as a good example because the elements of color and tone and the light sceme the artist used is found here in the artwork. The light from the sun and how everything reflects to the water looks realistic and people could know the overall meaning of this artwork, not specifically into one part. Pointillism Pointillism art is a style of art where it looks the same as other paintings but different. This type of art only uses dots to paint, but from a far distance, it would look similar to normal paintings. These dot paintings requires more time because it focuses on texture and the look of each individual dot. ! This art style was developed from impressionism, color and tones, light and techniques are similar to impressionism but it only changes the way of representing the artwork and the style. Henri Matisse painted his artwork using a large brush stroke and avoid painting shadows but to make the colour bold and use bright colors. Expressionism Expressionism is a art style that basically painted to express emotions, rather than reality. Expressionism came before abstract art, which abstract art was influenced by expressionism. In order to communicate and pass the emotions through, the artist must use a very deep colour and picture. ! Expressionism was found during the 19th and 20th century (1905) in Germany. This style of art was developed from fauvism in France, therefore the concept of this art style is similar to fauvism by using a bright colour and used for expressing the emotions. Munch, Edvard. The artist had made his body and the background curly which could show the audience about how shocking and unintended things were. The artist had used only some colours but making it in various tones for example the sky. Cubism Cubism art is an art that mostly rejects the perspective and the reality of the picture. Most cubisms looks more of a two dimensional design. Each part of the picture would be broken down into different shapes. ! Cubism art was developed during 1908. The art style was to break the picture into many geometric shapes that could still show the main idea, although, each part could be ironic to the audience. Picasso, Pablo. Abstract Abstract art is modern art which has shapes, lines and colours. It does not represent any of the living things or objects but represent emotions, sounds or ideas. ! This abstract art was emerged around the 1940s and became more developed in the 20th century. Artists have tried to express emotions and changing the world, finally they started having a huge response to the art. This art was developed by its uniqueness of how it was expressed. Jackson Pollock uses hard brushes to paint, before, the audience would not know his intention, but after, more people focus on abstract art. ! Mark Rothko was a very famous abstract artist. His artworks are mostly colors which has different tones and interpret different emotions. This is one of an abstract art I found. The artist of this artwork is Carl Kuerschner. This art is a good abstract art because its element of art is shapes form, line, colour and tone which the element is included in the artwork. The artist uses various colours and tones also using various shapes and forms. This artwork might represent the artist’s emotion or opinion about music and instrument. Dada Dada art style was a style which was made during the World War I, the style was the movement of the war. Dada style made this and people were against this art. The art style was more making fun of something. ! During the World War I, many artists had to move to Switzerland, and the art was made to make fun of the war since it was way too serious and artists was again sting it. Höch, Hannah.
