Lead is a dense, soft, low-melting metal. It is
an important component of batteries, and
about 75% of the world's lead production is
consumed by the battery industry. Lead is the
densest common metal except for gold, and
this quality makes it effective in sound
barriers and as a shield against X-rays. Lead
resists corrosion by water, so it has long been
used in the plumbing industry. It has also
been added to paints.
`
Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) These
chlorinated oils have a low degree of
reactivity. They are not flammable, have high
electrical resistance, good insulating
properties and are very stable even when
exposed to heat and pressure.

Asbestos Sampling
Why are we sampling?
Pre-demolition
Pre-renovation
Disturbances
Other Regulatory requirements
Asbestos Sampling
What are we sampling?
Unlike the traditional suspect material, new
materials have tested positive since the AHERA was
implemented
New Materials:
Terrazzo flooring
Vermiculite Insulation
Wallpaper
Grout
Floor leveler compound

`
Primary Issues today:
Unreliable or invalid sampling results from
previous surveys- insufficient samples
State of the Art lab analysis
`
`
`
Worker Protection
Window glazing compound and caulk
OSHA
Caulk-unauthorized use
` Major impact on renovations today
Quantifiable amounts
` Reaching the threshold of 50ppm
