Week 11
Date: 22/06/2016
Term 2, 2016
From the Principal,
In true ‘Bun spirit, parents, grandparents, friends,
siblings, staff and students participated with great
enthusiasm and highly parochial good spirits in
our annual athletics carnival held last Thursday.
The weather was fantastic and the day was as
crazy, enjoyable and fiercely competitive as ever.
It was exciting to see so many parents, students,
siblings and even the odd staff member getting
into the spirit by wearing team colours.
Our Sports Captains, ZL and Zane, did a mighty
job stirring up team spirit, organising students,
helping teachers and most importuning cheering
and encouraging all participants in their team in
all events. They were awesome!
Many thanks go to all our staff for running events,
organising the programme and trophies; Mrs
Gillespie for training students and organising
teams and equipment; and Mrs Vickery and Ms
Shervey for collating results and organising the
ribbons and stickers.
The P&C and parents put on a very tasty morning
tea and welcome BBQ lunch – thank-you.
Of course, it would be very remiss of me not to
mention the freely offered support of our parents
who measured, timed, took photos, gave out place
markers, cheered wildly, and congratulated
everyone who participated regardless if it was
their child or not.
Finally, and most importantly, congratulations to
all our students who tried so hard on the day to do
their best. The spirit of encouragement, good-will
and fair competition was a pleasure to be part of.
Great work, everyone!
Congratulations to our age champions

The incentive award, presented to the student who
participated to the very best of their ability and
showed great team spirit, was awarded to JL.
The Russ and Jean Town and Family trophy for
ball games was awarded to Bunya.
The Hilda Worth Memorial trophy for house
points was awarded to Wattle.
We gather again, at Quinalow on July 22nd for the
Small Schools Athletics carnival.
Today and tomorrow, Ms Tatum and I will be
sharing all the success stories of student progress
with parents. While it is a busy time for staff, it is
also very gratifying to put each child’s profile
together to get a big picture of achievement,
strengths and gaps in learning.
It has been an extremely busy semester and all of
us: parents, students and staff, deserve a wellearned break. Your commitment to your child’s
education and the support you give the teachers is
vital so we work together to get the best outcomes
for each and every child. We have a very positive
school environment where every child is
encouraged to ‘strive to succeed’ and succeed
they do.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank
parents and carers for the many ways you support
your child and the other children of our school.
The extra things you do make a huge impact on
their success and self-esteem. Give yourself a
special pat on the back and enjoy your break, you
deserve it!!
Holidays commence on 24th June and extend until
11th July. There is no pupil free day.
Remember, every day counts so bring your
students back ready to begin classes at 8:45am.
I hope that you and your family have a restful
break, and that batteries are recharged, ready to
meet the challenges of Semester 2.
Until next term, relax, recharge and stay safe if
travelling away.
Until next term,
Debbie Buckley
Principal
Go Green!
Mrs Gillespie has organised our Go Green end of
term reward. This term we will be travelling to the
Dalby Cinema to
view
a
special
screening
of
“Finding Dory” at
10am on Thursday
23rd, June. Travel
will be by bus.
What is even more exciting is that all children will
be entitled to go.
We will travel by bus, leaving school at about
9:30am. Parents and siblings are more than
welcome to come with us, but you will need to
pay for your own entry. Project Club will pay for
the excursion.
Children who have achieved 100% “Green” status
will be given popcorn as their extra treat.
Attendance for Term Two
53% of students attended school for between 95100% of school time in Term Two. This is
slightly down on Term One. Congratulations to
Zane, Chloe, Darcy and Charlie who have
attended school every day this term. Well done!

Bus Zone
Please respect the bus zone space during school
hours so that buses can pull up and pull away
safely. This keeps our children safe.
Sun Safety
A reminder that Kaimkillenbun State School is
working towards adopting a Sunsmart School
Policy. All students will need a broad brimmed
hat to play and to participate in PE lessons.
To be Sunsmart…..Slip on a shirt, slop on some
sunscreen, slap on a hat, slide on sunglasses and
slurp lots of water.
Library News
There will be no borrowing books
this week due to the approaching
school holidays.
Thank you to the students who
have returned their library books
promptly.
Please ensure your child/ren return all books
currently on loan ASAP.
Thank you
Ms Shervey
Student of the Week: Respect
Again, to promote sun safety, it is now a
Queensland Education requirement that all
students wear sunscreen and a rash vest while
they are in the water.
The school does provide 30+ sunscreen for all
students who wish to use it.
Remember NO HAT, NO PLAY! NO SWIM
SHIRT, NO SWIM!
For your Information
Insurance cover for students undertaking physical
activities
Physical
activity
and
physical education,
particularly contact sports, carry inherent risks of
injury. Parents are advised that the Department of
Education Training and the Arts does not have
Personal Accident Insurance cover for students.
Education Queensland has public liability cover
for all approved school activities and provides
compensation for students injured at school only
when the Department is negligent. If this is not
the case, then all costs associated with the injury
are the responsibility of the parent or caregiver.
It is a personal decision for parents as to the type
and level of private insurance they arrange to
cover students for any accidental injury that may
occur.
P-3: Chloe: For always being respectful to others.
4-6: J.L: For showing respect for himself and
others by being a good sport at the Interhouse
Athletics carnival.
Caught You Caring
Each week we encourage our students to look out
for little acts of kindness and write down what
they see or experience. Lots of little acts of
kindness add up to a positive school atmosphere
and special bonds that link students, staff and
community.

From The Classroom
Years P, 1, 2, & 3 (Ms Sally Tatum)
This week we read “The Terrible Plop”. We are
hearing rhyming words and breaking words into
syllables and then sorting them according to how
many syllables they have.
In Math, we are focusing on Time. Preps are
learning about ‘o’clock’ and placing events in
order, Year 1 are learning about ‘half past’, Year
2 and 3 are learning how to read how many
minutes past the hour.
Have an awesome break. I look forward to seeing
all the students next term.
WE LOVE YOUR WORK!!!
Until next week

We have finally made it to the end of a very busy
term and semester. Well done to all the students
for working hard right up until this point.
Many thanks to the parents and carers who have
elected to support their children with their
homework and home reading. Your efforts are
much appreciated. If you would like your child to
start doing homework, please let me know so this
can be arranged. Similarly if you don’t want
homework any more let me know. A reminder
that children should continue reading every day
over the holidays.
I am very much looking forward to sharing
progress reports with both students and parents.
The students have all worked very hard this
semester and your child deserves a huge pat on
the back and a well-earned rest for a job well
done.
Thank you so much for your support and the
interest you take in your child’s education. The
learning journey has been busy, challenging,
