Nursery Rhyme: Hickory Dickory Dock
Objective-TSW use pictures and
place in sequential order according
to a nursery rhyme.
Materials-“Hickory Dickory Dock”
nursery rhyme, poem pictures
template, glue, large construction
paper
Procedure1. Students recite “Hickory Dickory
Dock.”
2. Students cut out pictures to go
with nursery rhyme.
3. Students place pictures in
sequential order and glue onto
construction paper in correct order.
4. Students recite rhyme checking
to see if their picture is correct.
Evaluation-Ability to place pictures
in sequential order.
Objective-TSW identify rhyming
words. TSW be introduced and learn
the basics for telling time. TSW
create a clock snack.
Materials-“Hickory Dickory Dock”
nursery rhyme, chart paper, Judy
clocks, bagels, cream cheese, raisins
Procedure1. Students recite “Hickory Dickory
Dock.”
2. Discuss rhyming words in poem.
Create a class chart of words that
rhyme with clock.
3. Students play a clock math game.
Using Judy clocks, students pretend
to be a mouse. Call out a time and
the first mousie to set his clock to
the right time wins.
4. Students create a clock snack by
spreading cream cheese on a bagel
and placing 12 raisins around edges
for numbers.
Evaluation-Rhyming word and
number identification.
Objective-TSW identify positional
language using a nursery rhyme.
TSW listen to and follow directions.
Materials-“Hickory Dickory Dock”
nursery rhyme, classroom clock,
mouse doll, pre-cut mouse and clock
(6 of each per student), glue, paper
books with 6 pages
Procedure1. Students recite “Hickory Dickory
Dock.”
2. Discuss and review the position
words heard in poem (up and down).
3. Students practice placing mouse
doll in different positions with
clock.
4. Students make a position words
book by gluing mouse in teacher
read positions.
(page 1-mouse is on top of the clock;
page2-mouse is behind the clock;
page 3-mouse is beside the clock;
page 4-mouse is in the clock;
page 5-mouse is in front of clock;
page 6-mouse is above the clock)
Evaluation-Identification of

Objective-TSW identify opposites
using a nursery rhyme.
Materials-“Hickory Dickory Dock”
nursery rhyme, paper, crayons
Procedure1. Students recite “Hickory Dickory
Dock.”
2. Discuss opposites “up” and “down”
in poem. Name other opposites and
create a class chart of opposites.
3. Students illustrate 2 opposite
words. Teacher writes opposite
words for student.
Evaluation-Identification of
opposites.
Objective-TSW place numerals in
order on a clock using a nursery
rhyme.
Materials-“Hickory Dickory Dock”
nursery rhyme, real clock, pre-made
clocks (large circle with pendulum
hanging down), cut-out clock
numerals 1-12, glue, glitter
Procedure1. Students recite “Hickory Dickory
Dock.”
2. Discuss, read, and identify the
numbers on a clock using a real
clock.
3. Students glue the numbers on the
clock face in the correct places.
Glitter in the pendulum for fun!
Evaluation-Number order and
ability to place numbers in order
using a clock example.
Objective-TSW create a nursery
rhyme craft. TSW listen to and
follow directions.
Materials-“Hickory Dickory Dock”
nursery rhyme, paper plates, brads,
crayons, scissors, glue, mouse and
clock templates,
Procedure1. Students recite “Hickory Dickory
Dock.”
2. Color and cut out mouse and clock
templates. Glue the numbers onto
clock. Teacher puts brad through
center of plate, arrows, and mouse
(arrows on front of clock & mouse
behind clock).
3. Orbit your mouse around clock.
4. Invite students to take turns
calling out numbers as students
practice positioning mouse on clock.
