Happy Summer!
We are proud of the hard work
done by our students this year. Our
Accelerated Reader program
recorded almost 19,000 book
quizzes taken for reading with an
average score of 88.9%. Karate
Math ensured that all students improved their math fact
fluency raising problem solving grades across the board.
Our implementation of Lucy Calkins reading and writing
programs raised the rigor in our literacy instruction. Thank
you, parents, for supporting our initiatives and being
present for your child. You made a difference!
As we look ahead to next year we will make a few
changes. Homerooms for grades 3- 5 will be continue to be
assigned alphabetically and grade two will now align with
heterogeneous grouping like grade one. Agenda books will
return as reinforcement that students are expected to
read and practice math on a daily basis. Students will track
their individual progress on AR reading and grade level
math fact goals. Unfinished classwork and “re-do” papers
will continue as part of homework and research/enrichment
projects appealing to individual children’s interests will be
offered as additional learning opportunities. Individualized
support is always offered as needed to ensure that a child
makes growth. We are excited to have college interns
return to our school. At this time we are working with
placements from Salisbury University, Notre Dame of
Things to practice over
the summer…

Maryland and Grand Canyon
University.
Sadly, we are losing several
staff members this year. Mrs. Marsha
Parrott, our Media Specialist, is
retiring. She will keep herself quite
busy in the fall as she makes final plans
for Kate’s wedding and awaits the arrival of Megan’s first
child. Mrs. Amy Gore (gr. 4) and Mrs. Brenna Wojno (gr. 1)
have been approved to take a leave of absence. Ms. Rachelle
Wiltrout leaves kindergarten to
return to her hometown in PA. Other teacher news includes
Ms. Chelsea Seyster, ECI teaching assistant, who is getting
married in a matter of days! All of our teachers on
maternity leave will return including Mrs. KC Rellihan (gr. 4),
Mrs. Kelly Bressler (gr.5), Mrs. Shanon Snyder (gr. 5), and
Mrs. Hannah Zampelli (gr. 5).
The staff joins me in wishing everyone a safe and
sunburn-free summer!

Green Club News!
Green Club has wrapped up a very busy year. In
May, Youth Summit had over 80% attendance of
club members. We learned of many fresh ideas for
next year! We started our storm drain stenciling to
remind everyone not to pollute the Chesapeake Bay Watershed;
remember "Only Rain Down the Storm Drain". Check them out
on the side parking lot. Our tree watering brigade is forming
and working out details. All students are welcome to join us
when you see us watering at recess. We need everyone to keep
Four Seasons Green! THANK YOU to all who have helped our
efforts in all the big and little ways! A huge thank you to all
the teachers and parents who take on environmental stewardship with enthusiasm on top of all they do already. Together
we make the difference!

PTA BOOSTERTHON UPDATE!
As of Monday, June 6th, we had 74% of students
registered with pledges totaling over $28,000 from a
total of 36 states!
Four Seasons
Please join us for the Fun Run on
Thursday, June 9th
9 AM: Grades K, 1st & 2nd
10:45 AM: Grades 3rd, 4th & 5th
Students have had so much fun with this event including:
exciting Pep Rallies, lining up pledges, and talking about how
many laps they plan to run. The goal of achieving pledges
from all 50 states is especially exciting as Mrs. Ferralli and
Mr. Schmid have agreed to have water balloons tossed at
them by the teachers!
School Play
The school play, Mother Goosed, was such a success this year!
Students and parent volunteers worked really hard for several
months on the play. Many parents collaborated on the set design.
Some parents made costumes and other costumes were borrowed
from WACA along with sound system equipment and lights. Thank
you WACA!
The night of the performance everything went smoothly and the
children were so cute! The performance actually consisted of
several plays: Mother Goosed, Piglet’s Rehearsal, Boy Who Cried
Wolf, Mary’s Forgotten Lamb, and The Little Red Hen. Over 50
students participated in the production.
Special thanks to Director Rebecca Kotraba and Producer
Marian Newell for all of their hard work!
I will miss you
this summer
fellow Sharks!

Connecting You and Your Child to Information on Our Journey to Greatness
The evidence is consistent, positive, and convincing: families have a major influence on
their children’s achievement. When schools, families, and community groups work
together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer,
and like school more.” Anne T. Henderson, Karen L. Mapp

their peers by the time they reach the end of
the fifth grade… Just as athletes and musicians
must practice, young people must regularly
practice reading to maintain their skills and
