Just to the west of this sign is the Remembrance Garden, a special place dedicated to
Milton’s veterans and citizens who have given
distinguished service to the town.
Funded in part by Federal Highway Administration.
The riverfront village of West Milton was the first part of
town to be settled. The Lamoille River’s waters powered
many sawmills, pulp mills and gristmills.
Can you find
your way to
the Museum?
From 1926 to 1948 three dams were built on the Lamoille
River for power generation. They continue to operate today.

The historic village area on Main Street near
Arrowhead Mountain Lake was the former
central business district throughout most of the
Town’s history. The town’s current commercial center is more diversified and now centers
around U.S. Route 7 south of Main Street.

Immediately behind the building in front of
you is the Milton Municipal Recreational Park
which provides fields for organized sports and
recreational trails. It also provides links to
the extensive Vermont Association of Snow
Travelers snowmobile trail system. Larger
recreational areas provided by the town
include the Milton Town Forest and
Eagle Mountain Natural Area, which has
excellent views of Lake Champlain, the
Champlain Islands and New York’s Adirondack
Mountains. There are several locations that
offer the public access to Lake Champlain
and the Lamoille River. These include: Sand
Bar State Park and Wildlife Management
Area, the Lower Lamoille River Wildlife
Management Area, a boat launch site in the
Town’s northwest corner, “Riverfront Park”
on Route 7 and the Lamoille River Walk Trail.
