Are you looking for new K-12 lessons to add to your school garden activities? You are invited to attend one of
Florida Agriculture in the Classroom's (FAITC's) last three workshops and farm tours of the 2015-16 school year.

''Sowing the Seeds of Knowledge" School Garden Workshop and Farm Tour scheduled for Monday March
21 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the UF/IFAS Osceola County Extension Office in Kissimmee. The workshop will
feature a tour of a nearby blueberry farm and community garden/farmer's market. Registration is $10, which
includes lunch and transportation to the farm tours. Workshop participants are eligible for seven professional
development hours, and will receive copies of school garden curriculum Gardening for Nutrition and other

Registration is limited to the first 40 people to sign up.

"School Garden Summer Workshop" scheduled for Tuesday June 14-Wednesday June 15 at Bok Tower
Gardens in Lake Wales in Polk County. The workshop is geared to educators who teach students in
kindergarten through eighth grade, and whose gardening abilities range from beginner to advanced.
Participants will observe demonstrations of school garden lessons and hands-on gardening activities. They
are eligible for up to 12 professional development hours. A $30 registration fee covers lessons, gardening
materials and most meals. The workshop is a partnership between FAITC, the UF/IFAS Family Nutrition
Program (FNP), the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) Division of Food,
Nutrition and Wellness, UF/IFAS Extension & Bok Tower Partnership and 4-H. For more workshop and

"Sarasota County School Garden Workshop" scheduled for Friday June 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at
UF/IFAS Sarasota County Extension. Workshop participants are eligible for seven professional
development hours. In addition, they receive copies of school garden curriculum Gardening for
Nutrition, Gardening for Grades and other materials for free. FAITC and the Sarasota Extension Office are

"Golden Shovel Awards" - The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) is once
again offering its 'Florida Farm to School Golden Shovel Awards' program. Categories include: Best New
Garden, Best Revitalized Garden, Most Creative Learning Environment, Best Use of Produce and Most

applications is April 29. Schools must be participating in the USDA National School Lunch Program to be
eligible for the award.
