Why do we need to identify key skills? Why do we need to identify key character traits? CLARITY/COHESION/ALIGNMENT WHY? WHAT? HOW? CLARITY ALIGNMENT COHERENCE CLARITY What skills do we want our NUSD graduates to possess? ALIGNMENT How do we design our curriculum, instruction, and assessments to ensure our students learn these skills? COHERENCE How do we design our schools to ensure that these skills are learned? DIstinguish Between Skills and Character Traits In your table groups: Define SKILL and CHARACTER TRAITS Find an Example of each of them Identify a non-example on “What it is NOT?” Identify whether the word is a skill or a character trait BREAK Review Criteria ● All teachers must be able to teach the skills ● All teachers must be able to assess the skills ● Students must demonstrate mastery of the skills through an exhibition, portfolio, senior project, etc. ● No more than 5 skills Consensus on the Three C’s Use Gradients of Agreement What are the two Additional Skills that we would like students to Master Upon graduation? ● Think Individually: Each person identify the two skills they would like to add ● Share: Large group to come to consensus ● Combine groups: come to agreement ● Use Gradients of Agreement to show full group perspective LUNCH! 1. As an Individual, VOTE for your top two (if needed) Draft of Key Elements for each skill ● Each skill will need further revision and fleshing out by teachers, etc. ● Identify the key elements for the skill within your group What are the four to Five most Important Character Traits for our students to EXHibiT? ● Brainstorm as a group the four to five most important character traits Next Steps ● ● ● ● ● Board of Trustees Meeting on December 15 to discuss Presentation by DAC members to school staff about the skills and characters in January Final Board Approval on January 26- PLEASE ATTEND District Leadership Team is formed (principals and teachers from each site) to determine the “HOW”: how should the district and each school support our vision of the Novato Graduate Profile? Where do we start? DAC continues to meet each month to provide oversight and input into our Local Accountability Plan (LCAP) Next Steps Meet with principals to review - December 10 Get input from each school site and stakeholders in January DAC reconvenes on February 10, 9-3 pm, ½ Graduate Profile ½ LCAP February 23 - Board presentation and approval of Graduate Profile
