NYS Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program Quick Reference: Daily Procedure for Monitoring Temperatures using the Fridge-Tag®2L Data Logger Follow the procedure below for daily temperature monitoring using the Fridge-Tag®2L: 1. When the office opens for the day, look at the Fridge-Tag®2L display monitor on each storage unit to view the current and min/max temperature and to check for any ALARMS. 2. The current temperature is displayed on the screen. a. A check symbol will also display if no alarms are active or unaddressed. b. If an alarm is indicated, the device will beep and/or the display will indicate an “X” in the left corner of the screen. If an alarm is indicated or out of range temperatures* are observed, contact the NYS VFC Program at 1-800-543-7468. 3. Press the “READ” button on the display to view the maximum temperature. The maximum temperature is the warmest temperature the device has recorded since midnight. 4. Press the “READ” button a second time to view the minimum temperature. The minimum temperature is the coldest temperature the device has recorded since midnight. 5. Assess the readings* then enter them into the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) temperature log. a. If you cannot access NYSIIS at the time of the temperature check, you can document temperatures on a paper temperature log then transfer the temperatures into NYSIIS on a weekly basis. b. You should have a minimum of four (4) temperature readings documented in NYSIIS for each day that your office is open: i. Current temperature reading when office opens ii. Minimum temperature reading when office opens iii. Maximum temperature reading when office opens iv. Current temperature reading before office closes for the day *The acceptable temperature range for refrigerated vaccine is between 36° Fahrenheit(F) and 46°F or between 2° Celsius(C) and 8°C. The acceptable temperature range for frozen vaccine is between -58°F and +5°F or between -50°C and -15°C. Refer to the Vaccine Temperature Chart on the page 2 of this document for assistance in determining whether temperatures are within the acceptable range. Temperatures that read in the “too warm” or “too cold” range are considered temperature excursions and should be reported to the NYS VFC Program at 1-800-543-7468.
