What is Health Literacy?
• Health Literacy is important because it educates
our children and the public about lifelong lessons
of being healthy and physically active. Playing is
an important skill to have when you are young
because it is carried on through adulthood for a
healthier lifestyle. We have a problem with
increasing obesity in children and by presenting
the next generation with health literacy books, it
provides them with some insight on the type of
play they can do. Health literacy promotes
playing, exercise, imagination and a lot of fun!
Health literacy shows them the fun that they can
have without having to engage in video games or
watch television.
Why is this book written in this form?
• I decided to write this book in a procedural form
because it teaches children different fundamental
movements. This book “A Wild Ride Through the
Jungle” shows some key movements such as,
jumping, hopping, and leaping. This book gets the
children active which is a part of their physical
development and it is fun for them to play along
with their imagination which is a part of their
mental skills. This book is to help inspire children
from the ages of 5 to 8.
Monkeys!
Frogs!
Bears!
Today we are going to take a walk through
the jungle and have fun with our imagination!
We came across a wild river with a log
laying across it. How can we get across?
Like a Frog we can jump from lily pad to
lily pad trying not to fall!
We crossed the wild river and came
across Monkeys swinging from tree to
tree! Lets pretend we are monkeys and
run on our hands while springing our feet!
In the trees we hear a bear! RAWR! Oh
no! RUN!
We ran so fast we hurt our foot and now
we have to hop on one foot!
Oh no! There’s a huge log in our path. We
have to crawl over it.
Our day is almost over, we take a short cut out of the
jungle but we cannot get past all the trees! They are all
so close together. We must squeeze through the trees by
side stepping and then putting our feet together!
Wow! What a great day to go through the
jungle! We should come back and play again!
