Steam Cooking System for 5000 people using Scheffler Dishes at Siddaganga Mutt, Tumkur, Karnataka Location: Tumkur Type of Installation: Scheffler Dishes Configuration: 640 m2 (16 m2 x 40 Nos.) Supplier: Unisun Technologies, Bangalore Application: Cooking Year of Installation: 2011 Beneficiary Details: Siddaganga Mutt was established in the 15th century A.D and is located at Tumkur, Karnataka. It houses more than 9000 poor children who are provided with free food, shelter and education. The Siddaganga Mutt runs engineering colleges, schools, and other professional institutions. The establishment has implemented 640 Sq m2 capacity Concentrated Solar Project for the purpose of cooking. The plant is installed on the roof top of the canteen at the Siddaganga Mutt. Siddaganga Mutt, Tumkur. System Details: The total system has an area of 640 m2 comprising of 40 concentrators with 16 m2 capacity each. The system was commissioned during 2011 by M/s. Unisun Technologies (Pvt.) Ltd. Prior to the implementation of the CST system the establishment was using fuel wood as a feed to the boiler for generating steam. The system is integrated with its existing process. The project is set up at a cost of Rs. 65.81 Lakh with subsidy availed from MNRE of the order of Rs. 19.74 Lakh. CST Array at Siddaganga Mutt Cooking System in Siddaganga Mutt Timings & System Application Details: The system is operating for 4 to 5 hours for preparation of Anna Prasadam for the poor students & pilgrims. The daily quantum of food is around 1000 kg of Rice and 2000 kg of Dal. It is functioning properly and is operated around 300 Days /Year and has resulted in saving 3,00,000 kg of wood/year. Steam Generation: 2600 kg/d Operating & Temperature Pressure: 80-1000C; 6-8 kg/cm2 Type of Fuel Saved: Wood Quantity of Fuel Saved: 300000 kg/ day Functionality & Key Issues of Non-Operation: Operational Status of Equipment: Working Good O & M Issues & Beneficiary Perception: Around 1000 kg of fuel wood is saved by adopting the concentrating solar cooking system. The beneficiary has expressed satisfaction regarding the system. Few problems have been encountered in the early days of the installation in tracking which they had subsequently solved with the help of manufacturer. Financials in Detail: The project is set up at a cost of Rs. 65.81 Lakh with grant availed from MNRE of the order of Rs. 19.74 Lakh. The plant saves around Rs. 15.00 Lakh per year on cost of purchasing Wood. The plant has an IRR without subsidy of 19.27 % and payback period of 4 Years and 3 Months. With subsidy the IRR is 27.37 % and payback period is 3 Years and 3 Months.
