Anthem One Pager Presented by Bryce Making Inferences • Ayn Rand wanted us to see that Equality was a victim of collectivism. • She showed us that because he was no different he was just a person in a group. When he was in the forest though he was free. • “We have seen one at such man burned alive at the city”. This quote shows the man they saw said the “unmentionable word” which is I. The leaders wanted to keep collectivism and scared the citizens by burning him showing the punishment. Step Inside • I chose to step inside Equality 7-2521 shoes. • 1. Equality cares deeply about his love “The Golden One”. He also cares deeply about the box/light. • 2. Equality would wonder how things transitioned from the Unmentionable Times to his present day. He will also wonder how times were like back then. • He is a very curious guy. Kinda like me. CSI The color of this book is blue. Everybody is scared and keeps everything to their selves, except Equality and Liberty. They aren’t happy but their not completely devastated. Its mutual. A symbol for the book besides the light bulb could be a mask. It is a symbol of hiding thoughts and personality. Also in the book the leaders pretty much put a mask on everybody. Everybody hid what they were thinking except Equality. I will now show my image. Headline • A major theme is the author feels collectivism is wrong. Collectivism means 1.the practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it. 2.the theory and practice of the ownership of land and the means of production by the people or the state. • Mrs. Rand hates this concept and makes Equality a victim of it showing how bad this concept could be. When Equality reaches the forest it means he is free from collectivism and he is now very gleeful. Ask a level 2 question • My Question is Will Equality help his brothers and change the world? • My Answer is Yes. Equality said “After I have learned my new way I shall go into the cursed City of my birth.” ”They shall follow me.” Make connections “We lay on our back, we threw our arms out, and we looked up at the sky.” In this quote Equality feels free. I felt like this when my parents stopped babying me. They let me see a PG-13 movie when I was 10. I felt free that now they won’t hover me. “Then a blow of pain struck us, our first and our only. We thought of the Golden One.” He is missing his love. I too had an experience like this except it wasn’t my “love”. It was one of my best friends who left in 3rd grade. Personal Statement • I thought that this was a great book. It was very weird but I mean it’s the late 1930’s. It showed that being one in a group is bad. She wants people to see others as individuals. Notable Quotes • “Gaea is pregnant with our child.” • This jumped out at me because Gaea is 17 and they had a kid
